The Mecharbleton Caper
Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign
About the adventure
Welcome to Mecharbleton, a loudly bizarre city built on the volcanic plains of Mt. Sovereign. Here, you can walk the covered marble streets, relax in the city's natural hot springs, or take part in the most popular sport in the land—marble racing. But not all is as it seems in Mecharbleton. The night before the finale of the city's Grand Race, a precious and powerful artifact goes missing. The race can't conclude without it, and everyone's a suspect! Can you solve this most heinous of thefts? It's up to you and your friends to find clues, withstand the windbaggery of smarmy wizards, and delve deep into th emachinations of a notorious thieves' guild on your way to finding the artifact. Beware—more lies afoot than even the most eccentric minds of Mecharbleton suspect! This campaign is for characters of 1st through 4th level. Whether you're new to D&D or have been playing for years, you're welcome to join this mystery adventure. Marbles not included.
Game style
Rule of Cool (RoC)
“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.
Theater of the Mind
“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.

How to prepare
You will need both a Roll20 and Discord account. Though I'm comfortable making characters during Session Zero, it helps if you make yours ahead of time. You will want to make sure you have a working microphone, but no camera.
What I provide
I have a Roll20 Pro account with at least the D&D 2014 core books. Since this is a beginner-friendly game, I'm not going to be using homebrew species/classes, etc. I'm big on balancing the rules with the rule of cool. Whatever cool thing you want to do with a cantrip, you might need to make an ability check, but you can probably get away with what you want... WITHIN REASON. I heavily encourage narrating your actions cinematically, use of character voices, and interplayer roleplay. In fact, I use montages and the like to give space for players to interact with each other's characters.
Gameplay details
Before or during Session Zero, players are encouraged to fill out my Player Survey, which includes an expectations section and a consent section. Players can use this form to fill in their personal Lines and Veils, as well as note any table behavior concerns. During play, the Roll20 Safety Deck will be available, and I will do verbal check-ins periodically to make sure I'm catching any concerns in-game. Players are also more than welcome to verbally voice concerns, especially since I'm legally blind.

How will character creation work
Characters should be made at 1st level. If you're going to roll for your ability scores, I ask that you do so in the Roll20 game. Otherwise, feel free to use whatever species, class, or subclass you like, excluding Unearthed Arcana and D&D 2024. Standard equipment packs or starting wealth, it's up to you. Just make sure to roll your starting gold in the Roll20 chat. Please be encouraged to develop a rich personality and backstory for your character. This may turn out to be (or lead into) a longer campaign, and I love to work with players to make them feel like their character belongs in my setting.
