ALPENJAGER MOUNTAINCRAWL - 5E HOMEBREW
Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign
About the adventure
Welcome to Alpenjäger, a low-fantasy campaign setting designed for 5th Edition Dungeons & Dragons. Montane citadels stand as the last bastions in a dead world. High among the ruined peaks of a dying world, the last great citadels of mankind cling to survival. These fortress-nations are the true contemporary metropoles, carved into the bones of the mountains, are locked in endless war - fighting not just each other but the horrors that lurk below. INSPIRATIONS Mad God – Brutalist decay and the grotesque machinery of a ruined world. Hunt: Showdown – Bleak landscapes, brutal combat, and the ever-present threat of the unknown. Bloodborne – A world of esoteric horrors and civilizations on the brink of collapse. The Night Land – A sunless, hostile earth where humanity is besieged by the dark. THE ENDLESS WAR Life in the citadels is harsh. Industry keeps the war effort alive - factories churn out armaments. Relics - airships, advanced automatons, and mechanized walkers - are rare, remnants of a lost golden age, hoarded by the most powerful warlords. THE UNKNOWN Magic is a dying art, its practitioners viewed with equal parts fear and desperation. Some whisper that the ruins below hold lost secrets - terrible wonders that could end the war or damn what remains. ACTUAL PLAY Characters are survivors, mercenaries, and war-weary souls trying to carve out their place in a world that has no mercy. We will decide on the focus of the campaign once characters are made. CLASS GUIDELINES Martial characters thrive, but magic-users exist - rare, distrusted, and often changed by their knowledge. INTO THE BREACH.
Game style
Roleplay Heavy
“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.
Theater of the Mind
“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.
Rule of Cool (RoC)
“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.
