About the adventure

The Tomb of Annihilation is one of the most iconic D&D adventures, with it's inspirations dating back to 1975. A powerful and deadly curse has gripped the land; the dead are staying dead, and those raised from the dead are slipping inch by inch back to their demise. No mage in the world has the power to undo this so called "death curse" nor are able to offer aid to those suffering from it. This is where you come in; charged by a wealthy and well connected victim of the death curse you have been sent to Chult in search of answers. The land of Chult is a humid boiling pot of undead, goblins, trickster gods, political unrest, and did I mention the dinosaurs? This is a high stakes game, with the fate of more souls than you can count depending on you. Expect intense survival, a vast map to explore, some very unusual combat encounters, and some of the most colourful NPCs I have ever known. This is a published and pre-written adventure, however due to the way my brain works, it will not just be that, I have to add my own aspects to the game. But I shan't be giving away spoilers here. We are three sessions in, and at level 2 right now, and are exploring an interesting find in the jungle, a prime place for new adventurers to join us.

About me

Hello, I am Nope. I have been a DM for around three years, and a player for around five years. My style of running games is roleplay heavy, rules and mechanics light. I enjoy quirky and memorable characters, both my own NPCs and what my players bring to the table. It is my goal to homebrew my own system, however until then 5th edition D&D is my jam.

Character creation

Creating your character

I will go over the details in session 0, and can be reached at any time should there by any questions. I can provide pre-generated characters, and I'm happy to help with any stage of the character creation process. The whole game will run on 2014 rules, including character creation. Stats will be rolled for, 4d6 drop 1. We are at level 2 at the moment. For atmospheric reasons, I will be limiting races to the ones found in the players handbook, Xanathar's guide to everything, and Tasha's cauldron of everything.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

A microphone of reasonable quality will be needed, as well as a good internet connection to back it up. A discord account for the voice chat. A roll20 account for the VTT.

What Hal brings to the table

For me as a DM, the rule of cool is the most important rule in the game, bring forth all your quirky character concepts and insane battleplans. I approach each encounter differently, embracing what feels natural for the circumstance. My natural style is very sandbox, and I will not be following the module as it is written. There will be elements of my own design in there. I will ask each player to pick a colour at the start, my reasons are mine to know, and yours to wonder.

Homebrew rules

Nat 20 doesn't guarantee success. Nat 1 doesn't guarantee failure. For RP reasons, paladins swear their oath at level 1, the mechanics are the same as RAW.

Safety

How Hal creates a safe table

I will talk to everyone, both 1-1 and as a group, about expectations and possibly triggering content. Due to the nature of the game, unless something has been agreed ahead of time as being off limits, this game will have a lot of dark and mature content. Anyone can message me in private, at any time, should an issue arise, and it will be addressed as soon as possible.
