The Swords of Helfor
Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign
About the adventure
Dokunulmaz is a continent isolated from the rest of the world, a land bursting to the brim with divine magic, yet lacking major institutions for the arcane outside of the goddess of the arcane. Undead have ravaged the land before, destroying kingdoms in their wake and marring the continent forever - twisting the land itself. The Phylacter Wars ended nearly two centuries ago, but the seventy years of war left scars upon the land that bloomed into the founding of Holy Orders, dozens of them as each faith began adopting either a hatred of undead or desire to create them. The Hills of the Dead have been quiet these past two hundred years. Nothing has left them. Nothing. Not the shambling corpses of zombies, nor the scouts that every society has attempted to send. However, strange things have begun to happen in these lands. Strange indeed. Border villages being abandoned. Patrols along the edge of the hills disappearing. Some villagers report seeing spirits roaming in the night. The hills are rousing from their slumber, and dread fills all who watch for its stirring. Three Holy Orders are independent nations as we know them, the relevant one to you all being the Order of Helfor. Helfor is the god of passing, the deity responsible for guiding souls from their deaths to the afterlife as well as souls back into the care of the goddess of life, Nileth, once those souls have spent their needed time in the afterlife. The independent holy orders have smaller orders within them, both of major and minor deities who cooperate with the dominant order. All characters are expected to worship a deity to some degree in this campaign, though it does not have to be at the forefront of the character by any means. Undead will be the primary focus of this campaign, though some side quests to give a break may be included. Orders present in the Order of Helfor: Faornis, Goddess of the Arcane (LN) Ferdinand, God of Endurance (NG) Helfor, God of Passing (LG) Iluo, Deity of Justice (LG) Rhadure, God of Honor (LN) Thargrim, God of the Forge (LN) *Lesser Deities, which tend to be more niche in the communities they are worshiped.
Game style
Roleplay Heavy
“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.
Combat Heavy
“Combat Heavy” games emphasize the combat mechanics within their systems over roleplay or puzzle solving. There are frequent and longer battles with enemies and a greater emphasis on tactical game play.

How to prepare
You will need a Microphone for certain, a webcam is fully optional and while I will use one for most sessions - I might have off days that I opt not to use my own. Please, make sure you have both a Roll20 and D&D Beyond account created prior to session 0. If anybody is brand new to the system, please let me know. I will try to make sure to explain the very basics to you during session 0.
What I provide
I bring to you play on Roll20 (I have used Foundry in the past, so players may ask it be moved there if they wish.) and a swathe of content on D&D Beyond. Any recent book releases will be purchased in the near future, should they be deemed necessary. Additionally I do bring custom maps, I have a catalogue of existing maps and the ability to make my own maps should I be unable to find anything suitable for the encounter I have in mind. Random encounter maps may be reused. I tend to use music for my games, and I try my best to do voices - which I think I'm fairly good at. I tend to stick to the rules until they become an issue for my players, then we can have a conversation about homebrewing a solution. I also bring a fairly well fleshed out world that I have been working on for the past seven years, though the continent you all will be playing in has had more limited development.

How will character creation work
Our "First session" will be a session zero, which, if it does not run the duration of our time together, will include an opener to get characters introduced to each other. Your starting level will be level 3, and we will be using the 2024 rules as our baseline for character creation. Species and Subclasses that don't exist in the 2024 PHB are more than welcome to be used from older books.
