DND Homebrew 1-2 SHOT - Midnight Heist at the Masquerade

DND Homebrew 1-2 SHOT - Midnight Heist at the Masquerade

Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign

About the adventure

IS THIS FOR ME?: If you love role playing games, whether you have tons of DND experience or are brand new, you'll 1000% enjoy this :) I just ran this Masquerade homebrew for my local group and got amazing feedback! I have ~ a decade DM experience...so I'm *very* comfortable running DND campaigns. This game is only $9/person because it's my first online game. FYI - I've helped countless new players get up and running...so if you're new, I'm happy to share tips, resources on playing DND and creating your character, and of course personally answer any question on Discord :) STORY INTRO: Welcome to Velmont, a city of decadence, deception, and deadly ambition. Beneath its golden halls and masquerades, whispers of betrayal dance through the air like the flickering glow of candlelight. The Duke’s annual masquerade is the grandest event of the season, a night where fortunes are made and secrets are traded. But this year, the stakes are higher. The "Tear of the Moon" is displayed in the center of the ballroom—a gem said to hold the power of prophecy. And your mysterious employer, Madame Nocturne, craves it desperately!! Yep, to say your job is dangerous would be the understatement of the century. The security is airtight, and the guest list alone made the last crew soil their pantaloons and flee. But with 30,000 gold and a powerful magic item promised to each of you, the job is WAY too lucrative to resist :D Can you outwit the city's most powerful elite, pull off the heist of the century, and escape with your lives? Oh, and the party starts in just 2 hours...no time to waste!!

Game style

Roleplay Heavy

“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.

Rule of Cool (RoC)

“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.

Theater of the Mind

“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.

Recruiting notes

FYI - Designed as a "1 Shot", but listing as "Custom Campaign" because curating an amazing overall experience is my #1 priority. So if we complete the "Heist" all in 1 session, amazing! Buuuut if you're all having a *blast* roleplaying and it takes a bit longer, I'm leaving the option open for a 2nd sesh...then you can complete your caper next time ;) PS - If we have a 2nd session, it doesn't necessarily have to be the same day/time next week. I'll do a group poll and find another time that works for all interested.

New review

Just had my first game with Jordan..in person, not here. Ya I baisically had 0 dnd experience but had a blast! Really made it simple and easy for me, and he was super patient showing how to make my character (rogue!!). Seriously fun heist, kinda felt like we were in a fantasy Oceans 11 lol. Can't wait to play with him again, fingers crossed he starts a longer campaign.

New review

I've had "Hungry" aka Jordan as my DM for years (IRL), this dude is incredible. He's a real pro at setting a supportive, creative environment. Knows exactly when we need some helpful suggestions when stuck, and when to sit back and give each of us our moment to shine. I also love how he weaves unique aspects of our backstories into the adventure. Really feels personalized, how he always goes the extra mile for us. I'd game with Hungry every single day if it were possible!!

Additional details

How to prepare

Please have a mike (or your computer's built in mike is probably ok). I'll be on camera, but for you Webcam is optional. We'll organize the game on Discord, and run it on a Discord voice channel. Please send me your character's backstory at least 2 days before if you want me to incorporate it into the game. If you join last minute that's cool too :) though I might not have time to weave in elements from your backstory.

What I provide

I use DND 5e as a starting point, but I'm MUCH more into creativity and cool ideas than following "the rules". This game will be mainly RP. There might be 1 or 2 brief combat encounters, possibly a puzzle... but c'mon this is a masquerade ball! Social intrigue up the wazzooo. I'll use ambient music / songs to set the mood. I'll have Maps & Images of NPCs + Key items, etc. Either shared in Discord or a shared Google Doc. Since this is my first online session, I likely won't be using a VTT this time (exploring VTTs for future games). FYI - I'm no pro voice actor, but I enjoy giving each of my NPC's different voices and personalities. PS - we'll have a brief break in the middle, and of course you can feel free to step out anytime.

Gameplay details

"Open Door" policy: Feel free to ping me on Discord anytime, I mean that! Seriously, ask me anything. As this is a 1 shot, our "Session 0" is a just brief, 15-20 min chat before we jump in. We will.... - Meet eachother (Hey y'all! I'm Hungry the Dragon) - Review any topics to avoid per the "Consent Checklist" (players fill out before) - Share what you'd like to do in game - Ask any final questions - Review a couple rules how I run my games. - Get ready for the most ridiculously awesome adventure of your life!!! Safety: You can either call "stop" anytime in-game and/or privately DM me. We will immediately pause the session, and you can privately DM me (on Discord) with the issue and we'll re-start after 5 minutes, omitting that thing from the game. After-game: #1 - I'm open to all feedback...I promise you won't hurt my feelings :) I have a "Stars and Wishes" channel in my Discord server for this. Stars = What you loved about the game. Wishes = What you wish to see for future games. #2 - I have a "Recap" channel in my Discord for you to brag / recall any special moments from the game. If you do it in character, you start the next game with DM Inspiration ;) #3 - For anything private/sensitive, per my "Open Door" policy, feel free to DM anytime

How will character creation work

We'll use LVL 3 Characters. Stats with "Standard Array". Use Expanded Rules + 2014 Core Rules Create your character via D&D Beyond. Feel free to make your own or I can give you pre-made options, just let me know! Since this is just a 1 Shot, almost anything goes!
