Alien: The Roleplaying Game | One-Shot

About the adventure

🎬 The crew of the tugboat Big Boy is awakened from cryogenic slumber by a collision alert. It turns out that the vessel is approaching a derelict ship drifting in orbit around the gas giant Kriten in the KIII-6700 system. The opportunistic Captain Henricks doesn't let the chance slip by. He decides to strip the drifting ship of everything that isn't welded to the hull or tow it to one of the unmarked scrapyards for dismantling. The Big Boy's crew are seasoned scrap workers, for whom this isn't their first rodeo. Space hyenas, feeding on the scraps thrown to them by the vastness of the frontier sectors. Time is running out—the signal could have been intercepted by USMC rescue teams, or worse, by the competition, or even the UPP! 🎲 The Shipbreakers tells the story of the final hours of the crew of the tugboat Big Boy, all through the eyes of seasoned scrap workers. It offers a brief taste of cinematic gameplay and drops the players straight into the action. The pre-generated characters all have their own Agendas, Buddies, and Rivalries, but together they have one desperate collective mission: to survive with good loot.

Game style

Rule of Cool (RoC)

“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.

Roleplay Heavy

“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.

Theater of the Mind

“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.

How to prepare

Please have a working microphone, stable internet connection and head full of ideas. My favorite kind of player is a happy player. That is why the supply of water and a cup of your favorite tea and comfy place to play would be good preparation. Playing with camera on would be appreciated, but is not obligatory.

What I provide

➣ Forge/Foundry VTT with: - character sheets with pre-generated characters (that can be adjusted with details like name/gender/nationality), - ambient music + sound effects, - graphics representing NPCs, localisations and key moments; ➣ Playing with my camera on helps everyone at the table feel the mood of the scene and also being scared by my unhuman facial expressions. ;) ➣ I use a good quality microphone to make sure that everyone would “enjoy” every another meeting with variety of next monsters, lunatics and abominations. ➣ About sticking to the rulebooks… I am the biggest fan of my players’ characters and I like following their awesome and creative ways of dealing with the monstrosity of my worlds. The 'Rule of Cool' is applied on my daily basis. As much as I love letting them shine and have their epic moments, I also admire bringing to them hard consequences of living in this particular universe full of cruel and horrible things.

Gameplay details

➣ The need for a break can be reported in any possible way (PM, Foundry chat, Discord chat or even verbally during scene). Your comfort is my highest priority, ➣ Build-in safety tools on Foundry VTT (i.e. ❌Card); In addition: ➣ Before the start of our session, I will once more bring up the general rules around the table (to make sure that we all are on the same page), ➣ As well as I can also explain the basic rules of the game system (depending on the players' needs).
