The Great and Powerful

The Great and Powerful

Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign

About the adventure

The town of Northbarrow is in peril, its people living under the shadow of a terrible dragon. Desperate and outmatched, a young man named Lonnell ventures beyond his home, seeking heroes willing to confront the beast. But all is not as it seems. The so-called dragon hoards more than just gold—it clutches the very will of Northbarrow’s people in its coils, bending them to its enigmatic designs. Alongside new allies, including the charming yet mysterious bard, Troulin, and his ever-energetic companion Brinnevere, the adventurers will soon find themselves entangled in a tale of power, deception, and the thin line between heroism and tyranny. Their journey will take them from humble beginnings to grand halls where their names are whispered with awe and fear. The trials ahead will test their bodies, minds, and very souls as they face impossible odds and foes who refuse to stay dead. But in a world where power is the greatest currency, who truly holds control? And when the dust settles, will the adventurers still recognize themselves? The Great and Powerful is a tale of cunning, ambition, and the cost of greatness—where even the brightest victories cast the longest shadows.

Game style

Rules as Written (RaW)

Games that are ran “Rules as Written” emphasize realism and stick to the letter of the rules, allowing players to explore creative solutions while still operating under a consistent rule set. Players have the ability to utilize the rules in creative ways to create awesome characters and moments in the game.

Rule of Cool (RoC)

“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.

Theater of the Mind

“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.

Combat Heavy

“Combat Heavy” games emphasize the combat mechanics within their systems over roleplay or puzzle solving. There are frequent and longer battles with enemies and a greater emphasis on tactical game play.

How to prepare

You'll need a microphone and filled out character sheet. Everything else you'll need will be clear based on the pre-decided medium of play.

What I provide

I primarily run Theatre of the Mind but can use Roll20 when needed. I offer content sharing on D&D Beyond, blending homebrew and official content for a unique experience. I use character voices, ambient music, and immersive storytelling to bring the world to life. Combat is balanced but often leans toward action unless the group prefers more narrative focus. I mix Rules as Written with Rule of Cool—if you want to try something creative, go for it, and we’ll see how it plays out. Homebrew is welcome, just send it my way for approval. Player choices shape the story, and I’ll work through unexpected decisions narratively. Player conflicts are handled case-by-case to ensure a fun and fair game for everyone. At my table, expect engaging storytelling, thrilling combat, and plenty of chances to shape the world around you.
