The Ziggurat of Endless Calamity

The Ziggurat of Endless Calamity

Dungeons & Dragons 5e | One-Shot

About the adventure

Gary the Lich is no mere prankster or trickster—his pursuit of power is cold, calculating, and unrelenting. Residing in the Ziggurat of Endless Calamity, a place of twisted necromantic energy and forgotten horrors, Gary is a lich who has abandoned any pretense of humanity in his endless quest for dominion over life and death. His once vast knowledge of the arcane has turned into a maddening obsession with manipulating souls, twisting the very fabric of existence, and expanding his empire of the dead. Within the ziggurat's cursed halls, where the air is thick with the scent of decay and the walls pulse with malevolent magic, Gary's power grows stronger by the day. He controls a vast army of undead and constructs horrific abominations, all forged in his dark, soul-crushing rituals. To face Gary is to confront a being whose intellect is as sharp as his cruelty—an enemy who will stop at nothing to add you to his growing collection of suffering souls. Do you have the courage to face him in his desolate citadel, and can you survive the horrors that await within the Ziggurat of Endless Calamity?

Game style

Rules as Written (RaW)

Games that are ran “Rules as Written” emphasize realism and stick to the letter of the rules, allowing players to explore creative solutions while still operating under a consistent rule set. Players have the ability to utilize the rules in creative ways to create awesome characters and moments in the game.

Rule of Cool (RoC)

“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.

Theater of the Mind

“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.

Combat Heavy

“Combat Heavy” games emphasize the combat mechanics within their systems over roleplay or puzzle solving. There are frequent and longer battles with enemies and a greater emphasis on tactical game play.

How to prepare

You'll need a microphone and filled out character sheet. Everything else you'll need will be clear based on the pre-decided medium of play.

What I provide

I primarily run Theatre of the Mind but can use Roll20 when needed. I offer content sharing on D&D Beyond, blending homebrew and official content for a unique experience. I use character voices, ambient music, and immersive storytelling to bring the world to life. Combat is balanced but often leans toward action unless the group prefers more narrative focus. I mix Rules as Written with Rule of Cool—if you want to try something creative, go for it, and we’ll see how it plays out. Homebrew is welcome, just send it my way for approval. Player choices shape the story, and I’ll work through unexpected decisions narratively. Player conflicts are handled case-by-case to ensure a fun and fair game for everyone. At my table, expect engaging storytelling, thrilling combat, and plenty of chances to shape the world around you.

How will character creation work

D&D Beyond is excellent and FREE! I strongly encourage everyone playing D&D use it, but I will never require it. This is a level 5 one-shot and it's a wild, just straight fun campaign so do your normal roll and then re-roll your two lowest until they're equal to or higher than your third lowest. For example: you roll a 15, 13, 12, 12, 10, 10. You'd re-roll the two 10s until they're at least 12s. Let's get these fellas (gender neutral) BEEFY.
