About the adventure
🏰 A GRAND URBAN CAPER AWAITS YOU! 💰 Half a million gold coins (colloquially called "dragons") are hidden in a secret cache beneath the city, and practically everyone and their mothers want to get to them first. 🏁 YOU are caught up in the middle of this race-to-the-finish treasure hunt, and some of the "players" aren't afraid to kill to win. Will you cross the finish line before the competition or die trying? 😈 Go on a mad romp through the wards of Waterdeep as you uncover a villainous plot involving some of the city's most influential figures. Pit your skill and bravado against them, and let the dragon hunt begin! 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ [[Beginner & LGBTQIA2S+ Friendly]]
Meet the Game Master
About me
My name is Joshua, and I am a professional Dungeon Master with decades of experience as an actor, storyteller, and entertainer (known a "DM on Demand"). I will bring my creative flair to each and every game, providing you with an incredible experience unlike any you can find elsewhere. Looking to book me for a group of kids? No problem. I have 7 years of experience in the children's entertainment industry prior to doing this. Looking to book for adults? Also no problem. Let's face it, adults who like Dungeons & Dragons are just big kids anyway. I've been doing this for some time now, so you can book me with confidence knowing you're getting the whole package.

Creating your character
As this campaign is already ongoing, I handle character creation with each new player on an individual case-by-case basis. I'll provide you with all the necessary information to make your character and guide that creation process with suggestions for choices that would make it easiest to inject yourself into an already ongoing plot. For ability scores, you can use Standard Array or Point Buy if building on your own; if you really want to roll stats we'll do that together at the start of your first session. Any character option in the 2014 Player's Handbook, Xanathar's Guide to Everything, or Tasha's Cauldron of Everything is on the table. Anything outside of these sourcebooks, clear it with me first. At the time of writing this, PCs are level 3.
Current party makeup includes a Life Cleric, a Shadow Sorcerer, and an Arcane Trickster Rogue.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will need a quality microphone and a stable internet connection. A webcam is optional. You must join my discord server and Roll20 campaign well in advance of your first session, and we will need to have at least had a discussion about what character you plan to make. Ideally, you've made all the relevant choices for that character already. Other than that, just bring yourself and a desire for adventure!
What Joshua brings to the table
I will provide all the necessary digital assets, from maps to tokens, background music to player handouts, etc. Beyond that, I rely on my skills as a trained stage/screen actor and storyteller to make my games come alive. I'm not a voice actor though, so I don't usually try to give NPCs quirky voices, preferring to focus on authentic characterization and motivations to make them feel unique. I'm not a slave to the rules, although I do feel like breaking them needs to be in exceptional circumstances. If using "Rule of Cool" becomes commonplace, it's no longer cool. I believe in making sure your choices matter, and your actions have consequences (both good and bad). Although the adventure at times has a somewhat linear plot, at no point should you feel you don't have agency to affect the story and world around you.

Safety
How Joshua creates a safe table
I keep a live Lines and Veils document that is constantly updated as players come and go. During a session, if we come up against any of your known or unknown lines or veils, be they on the sheet or not, you can use the X, N, and O safety cards in chat or by messaging me directly in order to make your feelings known. We also have a scheduled break in the middle and an open-door policy for anyone to get up and take an additional break whenever they need it for any reason without judgment. After the session, we hold an aftercare discussion to ensure everyone's mental health is cared for if the session has any potentially stressful content.
