Prose And Cons 💰💥🗡️🪙 [D&D5E Heist Caper, All Welcome]

Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign

About the adventure

Ahoy! Welcome to a short heist adventure that is part dungeon-crawler, part roleplayer. You'll need to think on your feet if you want to get out alive and rich - whether that means guileful sneakery, talking your way in, or ruthlessly efficient combat tactics is up to you. We'll be starting at level 7 and likely be staying there for the duration of the adventure. We'll be beginning with a session 0 in which we'll create characters, fit them together, and connect them into the homebrewed setting. Speaking of which... 💰💥🗡️🪙 The Bank of Dragons is the most secure bank in the city of Dragonswing. The gnomish mafia want in, and you're in no position to say no. You have 48 hours in which to get in, fill a bag of holding each, and get out. You'll need to choose which of your contacts to leverage, and which to disregard, before you make your move. Succeed, and not only will you be rich beyond your wildest dreams, but you'll also clear your debt to Don Spramble. Fail, and you'll never see the sun again. May Hermes guide your hand...

Game style

Roleplay Heavy

“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.

Dungeon Crawl

A “Dungeon Crawl” is a scenario where players navigate a dungeon or labyrinth-like environment for the entirety of the adventure. It emphasizes battling monsters, collecting loot, and avoiding traps to survive to the end!

Combat Heavy

“Combat Heavy” games emphasize the combat mechanics within their systems over roleplay or puzzle solving. There are frequent and longer battles with enemies and a greater emphasis on tactical game play.

Party notes

🪙Breaking the Bank of Dragons is a D&D 5e (2014) game starting at 7th level. 🗡️If you're looking for an entertaining and unpredictable campaign run by a professional British voice actor, you're in the right place. 🪙 We're hoping to run our first session on 21/06/25, or as soon as we get enough players. Hope to see you there :) 🗡️ Once we're ready to start, we'll hold a session 0 to get to know each other, create characters and test them out, see to last minute safety tools, and develop relationships between the characters and the world.

Benjamin made a very enjoyable campaign, that integrated each character's story into the main plot. This, along with interesting npcs added a great deal of richness and personal investment into the campaign at large.

Ben hits the nail on the head when he says his tone falls between Pratchett and Tolkien, well designed worlds with grand conflicts full of funny and intriguing characters. Would absolutely recommend him as your DM.

I had an absolute blast playing in this game! The setting was rich and immersive, and the adventure—delving into ancient ruins to discover it's mysteries—was both engaging and full of interesting choices. Our group ultimately decided to destroy the weapon that was found in the ruins rather than risk its power falling into the wrong hands, and the way the DM handled our decisions made the world feel alive and reactive. The pacing, challenges, and storytelling were all fantastic, making for a truly memorable session. I will definitely be playing in this DM’s games again. Highly recommended!

Ben has created a world that combines fun, tension, realism and humour. His voices are great, his plots are beautifully paced. The maps set the scene well. A great way to spend an evening.

Ben is an amazing DM. He runs very detailed and whimsical games whilst also knowing when to get more serious. Combats were all fun and inventive and allowed for the perfect amount of pc shennanigans. Absolutely recomend spending some time playing with him.

How to prepare

Before session 0, all you need is a webcam, a mic, a discord account, and somewhere to create your character - a paper sheet, dnd beyond, up to you. Before session 1, you'll need a roll20 account, an image for your character token, and some understanding of at least the rules that pertain directly to your character (their race, class and background for example).

What I provide

🪙 I encourage in-character roleplaying, player choice, and creative choices. Expect an engaging story that you have a say in - give me a backstory with a couple of colourful characters in it, and they'll more than likely crop up somewhere in the adventure. 🗡️ I run the game on Discord for speaking and Roll20 for combat. 🪙 I make liberal use of in-character dialogue and encourage players to do the same. I also encourage players to argue their cases for things like unorthodox skill checks, however ask that they respect my final ruling. 🗡️I use background music for those who want it, but one of the reasons I run games on discord is that it can be turned down or off individually. I can supply pdfs of all core rulebooks and some snazzy character sheets. 🪙 And, finally, I'm a professional voice actor, so expect high-quality narration in terms of both content and sound quality - check my DM profile's Youtube link for some sample narration!

Gameplay details

Session 0 will involve character creation, and a discussion of any triggers players might have for one's own character and the game in general. The game itself will largely be story driven, but that doesn't mean you won't have think tactically and rely on your companions when you do get into combat. Fun is what we're all here for, and sometimes nothing is more fun than a well-applied fireball.

How will character creation work

Your team are down on their luck, in deep with the Gnomish Mafia, and may well have their own reasons to pull of the heist - infamous burgalars, idealistic vigilantes, underfunded wizards, and corrupt nobles could all find themselves involved in this adventure. We'll be starting at level 7, creating characters using roll4drop1 stats. All core and expanded official WOTC races and classes are fine, but run any homebrew past me before setting your heart on it. We will also be running a session 0 to go further into character creation and help anyone who needs it to get their head around the numbers. Feel free to message me with any questions :)
