Finders Keepers: A Lost Mine of Phandelver Learn To Play

Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign

About the adventure

It was supposed to be a simple job. Just delivering mining equipment to a frontier backwater for an old friend. But it all went sideways. Now you're caught up in something bigger, infinitely more dangerous, and your choices in Phandalin could change the balance of power throughout the Sword Coast. Lost Mine of Phandelver is a thrilling adventure filled with classic D&D high fantasy, world-changing stakes, and challenging encounters. It is perfect for anyone new to the game or looking to enjoy one of fifth edition's most popular adventures. (Note: I'll be running this adventure as the first half of Phandelver and Below and running the second half of that adventure as a later campaign.) Whether you're a brand-new player, a seasoned veteran, or somewhere in between, you're invited to join. The gameplay will be a blend of combat, exploration, and roleplay, ensuring there's something for everyone. That said, this is the perfect campaign to start with if you are new to D&D or TTRPGs.

RJ is an AMAZING DM and an even more amazing storyteller! I was worried about how one-shots work compared to campaigns, but I had nothing to worry about. Had a great session filled with action and investigation—I even rolled two Nat 1s and a Nat 20, so I definitely got the full D&D experience! Highly recommend RJ if you're new like me or if you have tons of experience.

Just played a 4 hour one-shot and it was a lot of fun. Only two players and according to RJ with only minimal alterations to the base encounters. A rich setting and compelling NPCs.

10 stars if possible. This was my first experience with D&D 5e and RJ was great at helping me with the rules and how some actions worked. Everything is set up to be super convenient and before you know it, you're beginning your game. I never felt like I was holding anyone back and he made it real easy to slip into the RP of the game. It also helps that my group was amazing as well. Look forward to more sessions with him and my group.

How to prepare

For this campaign, you'll need the following: - Discord account - D&D Beyond account - A microphone and speakers (or headset) suitable for use on Discord (your phone can work for this if you have a quiet area to play) - A computer, laptop, tablet, or a combination of these capable of running both Discord and D&D Beyond simultaneously. - Webcams are optional We'll communicate during the session using a designated voice channel on my Discord server. Once you secure your spot in the game, you'll receive access to the link to join my server. We'll use D&D Beyond Maps for our VTT. I understand that this is a new platform for many people. However, it's straightforward to use and runs easily on most computers. There's nothing to download for it, and I'll do an orientation for everyone during Session 0. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions as you prepare for the session. I'm happy to answer any questions you may have.

What I provide

- D&D Beyond Maps as the VTT - Discord channel for gameplay - A fun, dynamic, adaptive DM-style - Intense in-game challenges - A strong, evocative narrative style - Almost 30 years experience with D&D - A decade of experience DMing for D&D 5e

Gameplay details

Our first session will start with a Session Zero, during which I orient everyone to my style of gameplay, build characters, and go over the safety tools used. If Session Zero doesn't take up the whole time (and it probably won't), we'll jump into Session 1 and start the adventure.

How will character creation work

We'll create characters together during Session Zero. If we have players who have never made a character on D&D Beyond before, I'll do a walk through of the process. Either way, I'll be present throughout to answer any questions that might arise.
