About the adventure

This game is welcome to people of all backgrounds, genders and orientations. If you have any issues with inclusivity, this may not be the game for you! Beginners and Veterans alike are welcome, and I'm happy to help you build your characters! Welcome to the Humblewood! There have been disturbing signs over the last few months, signaling that something is wrong in Humblewood. The troubles appear to originate from activity in the Scorched Grove, an ashen plain that was ravaged many centuries ago by a destructive fire. Whatever caused the fire has scarred the land with elemental magic, making it inhospitable to all but strange fire-based creatures. Of late, the Grove has begun to expand. At first, it was hard to notice the slow expansion, but those in tune with nature (especially the Tenders) could see the imbalance in the elemental forces of Humblewood. For many common folk, this imbalance has been experienced as unseasonal dryness, which has led to crop failure and an increased frequency of forest fires. There have also been a number of unusually aggressive emberbat clouds reported far outside of their natural ranges. The true nature of the danger still remains hidden from the people of the Wood. A corvum necromancer has stirred the elemental aspect of fire, which has lain dormant beneath the Scorched Grove since its first burning. The aspect’s energies have begun to empower fire-based creatures within the Wood. The increased range of emberbat swarms have brought fires that have expanded the Grove. Many forest-dwellers, who have been left without homes, have turned to banditry to survive. Soon the elemental incarnation will break free, and you must find a way to stop the aspect of fire before it reduces the Wood to ashes.

About me

I'm a DM with nearly 30 years of experience and have been a Professional running multiple sessions weekly since 2021. I've been playing since 2nd Edition and I strongly believe that the player's write the story with their choices and decisions, I'm just the editor that makes sure every player is getting the role they want in the story. While I sometimes may be using published materials, I'll often tailor the module to the players. This means that your choices in character creation will help shape the story, and veterans who may have played the adventure before might get a surprise or two! I believe in RAW and RAI, meaning your spells and abilities will do what they say they do, but I also support and encourage creative applications as well. I won't punish you for your build or your creativity, instead I'll find ways to make you feel challenged and awesome! I'm a fan of rich, fulfilling narratives, memorable characters with unique personalities and stories that will change based on your decisions, but I'm also a seasoned vet who's fought a battle or two and loves dynamic tactical combat. Depending on who is in the group and what your preference is, we can focus on either (or both!). We can play a session without a single roll of a die, or we can wage glorious battle through a gauntlet of cunning foes. The game you want is the game I'll bring to you!

Always patient with players who might be unsure of a rule or game mechanic. Really not enough room to adequately describe this DM. Highly recommend

Michael is a great GM. Fun, knows the history of D&D, knows the rules well, is very conscientious of what the players want, is great at doing different voices. All around good time. Thank you!

Playing with Fistan scratched the itch I was looking for. I signed up on short notice, and he was incredibly flexible and helpful in ensuring that I was ready to play. The game had a mix combat and role play, and was in the sweet spot of seriousness/playfulness for my taste (more lighthearted). I'm thankful for the help and game!

My group was on the verge of giving up on our D&D campaign until we came across Northern Dungeons. We had been through two campaigns with two separate GMs that fell apart as we encountered an issue of player voices being dismissed or ignored. We then decided to try one last time and go the professional route in hopes of finding a GM open to collaborating with players to create a world where we could finally tell the stories we had spent years crafting. Our group was very lucky to have come across Nothern Dungeons. Their energy, openness to ideas, and willingness to collaborate and work with their players to create something amazing are the exact qualities we were hoping to find in a GM. We wanted to play a mature game that addresses mature themes. Northern Dungeons has navigated this exceptionally well and has been attentive to our safety and comfort around the table. I'm a player who can go a little overboard with backstory and world-building as part of the creative process. I love to create living, breathing characters with rich histories and ties to the world they live in. It's nice to have a GM who is willing to go above and beyond to get to know the characters I've created and is committed to giving as much justice to them as they can. It has been a joy to play in session and see my characters finally come to life. If you are looking for a GM who is professional, does great voice impressions, and is dedicated to working with players to help them achieve their visions for their characters and the campaign as a whole, I believe Northern Dungeons would be perfect for the job!

Fistan is amazing at weaving a backdrop that you, the player, get to immerse themselves in and control. Interesting encounters and colorful NPCs help round out this already stellar experience. I could not recommend him more!
