Dark Tides in Baldur’s Gate | Roleplay-Heavy D&D 5e Adventure
Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign
About the adventure
"A campaign of choices, consequences, and the creeping shadow of something far darker than politics." It begins in the gutters of Baldur’s Gate — with whispers of power, betrayal, and something stirring beyond this world. This is a D&D 5e game where roleplay, tension, and consequence shape the story. Inspired by the official campaign, the tale starts with political unrest and street-level intrigue — but what seems like a local crisis may unravel into something far greater… and far more dangerous. I’ve run this full campaign before with long-time players, and now I’m opening the gates for new adventurers — beginners are welcome, and support is always available. I use Fantasy Grounds Unity with a theater-of-the-mind style for immersion and flow. Webcam is optional, but encouraged for a more personal feel. Expect deep character moments, tactical danger, and a world that watches what you do. 🎲 What to Expect - Intrigue, investigation, and escalating danger - A DM who focuses on story and helps you learn - Hard choices with real consequences - Thoughtful pacing, personal storytelling, and intense action - Weekly story recaps & campaign journal - An adult, respectful table where communication is key If you want a table where your decisions matter, and the world pushes back when you act without thinking — come pull up a chair. You’ll need your wits, your heart, and maybe your soul.
Game style
Theater of the Mind
“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.
Combat Heavy
“Combat Heavy” games emphasize the combat mechanics within their systems over roleplay or puzzle solving. There are frequent and longer battles with enemies and a greater emphasis on tactical game play.
Roleplay Heavy
“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.
Looking for a campaign that blends meaningful roleplay, intense tactical challenges, and choices that truly matter? You've found it. This is a roleplay-forward game with high-stakes encounters, real consequences, and a living world that reacts to player decisions. New to D&D 5e or just the 2024 rules? No problem — this table is beginner-friendly, and I’ll walk you through everything. We’ll explore character arcs, forge bonds, and push through hell (literally) together. Sessions run on Fantasy Grounds Unity with voice through Discord. Come prepared to collaborate, commit, and have a blast.

How to prepare
To join the game, here’s what you’ll need: A Fantasy Grounds account (the free demo version is enough) The Fantasy Grounds Unity app installed on your computer A Discord account and a working microphone A stable internet connection and a quiet space to play A webcam is optional — I’ll be using mine to help make the game feel more personal, but you’re free to use yours or not No prior knowledge of D&D 5e is required — this is a new player-friendly game, and I’ll gladly walk you through the rules and tools step by step. Just bring your creativity, curiosity, and a character concept you're excited to explore. We'll build the rest together.
What I provide
We’ll be using Fantasy Grounds Unity (FGU) as our Virtual Tabletop, where I’ve got the full Descent into Avernus adventure along with all the essential official D&D 5e books for character options and reference. Communication and immersion will be handled through my Discord server, where I’ll also share updates and host weekly feedback chats. To keep players connected to the evolving story, I provide: - Weekly campaign recaps (via a shared Google Doc) - A journal system inside FGU to track key events and character moments My DM style mixes deep character-driven storytelling, tough-but-fair tactical combat, and a world that responds to your actions. I love roleplay and dramatic choices, but I also enjoy letting players shine in combat — where smart planning (or recklessness!) can change everything. Expect: - Ambient music to heighten immersion - Character voices and NPCs with personality - A flexible approach to rules (RAW when it matters, but I welcome creative play) - A camera-friendly, personal-feeling table where RP is encouraged but never forced I aim to make every session feel like a meaningful chapter in a larger story, with characters you’ll remember long after the campaign ends.
Gameplay details
In Session 0, we’ll create characters together, walk through the basic rules (as needed), and discuss the tone of the campaign. I’ll also introduce the setting and major themes so players understand what kind of story we’re stepping into — and what their characters might be fighting for. I believe in clear, respectful communication and check in with players regularly. At the end of each session, I ask for quick feedback (from you or your character’s perspective) — what you enjoyed, what stood out, and what you'd like more or less of. This helps keep the table safe, collaborative, and evolving. While I don’t use formal safety tools like X/N/O cards by default, I’m open to incorporating any method that helps players feel secure. If something makes you uncomfortable during play, I encourage a private message or just a quick note in chat — we’ll always pause and address it with care. My focus is on creating a table where everyone feels heard and invested in the story — and where we all grow into the game together.

How will character creation work
We’ll build characters together during Session 0, where we’ll also discuss party composition, goals, and how your backstories tie into the world. For ability scores, we’ll decide as a group whether to use Point Buy (with a few optional tweaks) or rolled stats — whichever fits the table’s vibe best. You’ll have access to all official 5e content I’ve got loaded in Fantasy Grounds, so feel free to draw from any core book, supplement, or official subclass you'd like. I’ll help guide newer players through the process and support veterans who want to try something more offbeat or thematic. The most important thing? Build a character you’re excited to explore — the kind who’ll thrive (or struggle) in a world full of dark choices, infernal bargains, and desperate heroism.
