About the adventure

Come one, come all, to the Witchlight Carnival! A magical carnival that appears only once every eight years, and when it shows up in your town it is not an event to miss! As a child, you followed your friends to experience its wonders, but when you had no coin to pay for your ticket they took something else instead. Eight years later, the carnival has returned. Can you recover what you lost, and what lengths will you go to in order to obtain it? The Wild Beyond the Witchlight is a whimsical foray into the Feywild for D&D 5e (2014 rules) that spans levels 0 to 8. Venture beyond the bounds of the carnival, return the light that could be lost, and a piece of yourself might be found along the way. This game is open to those of all ability levels! Whether this is your first time playing D&D or you're a veteran of the hobby, I'm happy to provide whatever support is needed for you to have fun. I do tend to run roleplay focused tables, so if you're the type of player that prefers to go no more than a session or two without combat this may not be the table for you.

About me

Hello everyone! My name is Emma, and I'm a forever GM of many years who loves to tell meaningful stories with whoever sits at my table! TTRPGs first made an appearance in my life in 2015 when a neighbor invited me to try out Dungeons and Dragons through our high school's gaming club. While half of my first session was spent creating my first ever character, the excitement at the table was infectious. Before long I was hooked, and within two years I was DMing games of my own! Fast forward to today: I am the Founder and Creative Director of the Tabletop Talespinners Network, a TTRPG podcast network whose mission is featuring diverse GMs and players at our tables. I DM two D&D 5e podcasts for the network, and have appeared on multiple livestreams as a GM and player in a multitude of TTRPG systems. Now, I'm hoping to bring that expertise to running games for you! Safety, inclusivity, and fun are my top priorities in any game I run. My tables are always BIMPOC and LGBTQ+ friendly, and players are expected to treat each other with kindness and respect. Racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, and/or body shaming will not be tolerated at the table in or out of game. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I hope to see you at a table of mine soon!

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will take place before session zero, with assistance via discord text chat or voice call depending on player preference. I am a proponent of players using the tools that make them the most comfortable, whether that be a physical character sheet, D&D Beyond, or a different tool to house their character sheet. While I own some of the physical books that I am able to reference for you, my online collection on Roll20 is comparably small. If there is a race or class you want to play that neither of us own the content for, I can provide information on customizing your character sheet in Roll20 so that you do not need to own the content in order to utilize it for our game. Characters will start the first session at level 0 to explore their experience at the carnival as children. From there, we will experience an 8 year time skip and meet the level 1 version of your character. Instructions for building your level 0 character will be pinned in the Discord server. At level 1, stats will be determined by rolling 4d6 for each stat and dropping the lowest number. Content from all official sourcebooks will automatically be approved. Any homebrew or third party content (including Unearthed Arcana) requires my permission for use, and will be approved, denied, or modified on a case by case basis.

The current party

This game is already partway into the story, but certainly not too far along to welcome another player! We will be sticking to the 2014 ruleset in this game, and you will start at level 2 alongside the rest of the party. Confirmed classes from other players are as follows, but do not limit yourself to what isn't already being played at the table if you have a strong character concept in mind: - Artificer - Rogue - Sorcerer - Bard - Monk We will have an onboarding call/session zero one on one before you join the campaign, which will take place outside of the hours of the main session. The GM will send you a scheduling poll once you've joined so that can be arranged before your first full session.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

In order to play, you will need to have a Discord account set up so that you may join my gaming server. This is where all games will be hosted. All games I run are via voice chat in the Discord server. A microphone with which you can be clearly heard is required. I will be on camera as the GM, but having your camera on as a player is optional. The VTT we will be using is Roll20. Regardless of whether or not you create your character there, please have an account set up prior to our first session so that you can access the maps for combat.

What Emma brings to the table

As a GM, I bring to the table 7 years of experience alongside 4 years of acting training. I love creating unique and recognizable voices for all NPCs, whether they appear once or return throughout the campaign. My games are heavily focused on roleplay and integrating your character's backstory into the game. Every player and character deserves to have their moment to shine, and I really enjoy allowing players the freedom to do so whether they're playing a homebrew game or pre-written module. I am primarily a Rule of Cool GM. If there is something you want to do that would enhance the story being told, I will do everything I can to find a way to make it work within the game. If what you're initially asking for is a little too overpowered for me to allow it, I will work with you to find an alternative solution so that your creativity can still be rewarded.

Homebrew rules

• For crits, roll double the dice and reroll 1s • Any death saves will be rolled privately to me • Potions are a bonus action to drink. For healing potions, you can choose to take a full action to drink the potion and gain max healing. Administering it to someone else is an action. • Will gladly consider additional homebrew rules as needed/requested

Safety

How Emma creates a safe table

A google form version of the RPG consent form will be sent out to be filled out prior to session zero. While the original Wild Beyond the Witchlight module may contain potentially disturbing topics, I will be modifying the module to suit the preferences of the players once the consent forms are filled out. During session zero, we will go over all safety tools being used and how they will be implemented during the campaign as well as any homebrew rules, additional preferences, and/or character creation questions.
