Here Be Dragons☠️🐉⚓ [5e, All Welcome]

Dungeons & Dragons 5e | One-Shot

About the adventure

In the shadows of ruins, jungles, and empire, pirates compete for glory and gold. One way or another, you find yourself aboard the good ship Chimera, in pursuit of it's kidnapped Captain. What happens next is up to you... Welcome to a roleplay focused, player driven, swashbuckling one shot! We'll be playing at level 3, creating characters using roll4drop1 stats. Some understanding of D&D is a must, as you likely won't have time to learn the fundamentals of the game in this quick adventure. This adventure is a one-off, however it has the potential to be the first session of a larger campaign if you so choose. Now, some lore, as a treat: ***** Our scene is set in the Beloron isles, a tropical archipelago first inhabited by the ancient Dwarves - now long since departed - then by tribes of bullywugs, and then finally by the people of Sterm. The Holy Stermic Empire and the United Stermic Federation have been at war for centuries. The Empire is a rigid Theocracy, led by 12 Popes each worshipping a different Olympian god. The Federation, on the other hand, is led by an arcane council, and values the knowledge and learning inherent to wizardry above all else. When a group of rich, fertile islands were discovered half a world away, both scrambled to claim it. This led to suffering and displacement for the native Bullywugs and Aarakocra from their tropical homeland, and opportunity for enterprising swashbucklers...

Recruiting notes

🐉 Here Be Dragons is a 3rd level D&D 5e one shot. ☠️ If you're looking for an entertaining and unpredictable game run by a professional British voice actor, you're in the right place. 🐉 We'll be playing on 28/03/25, or as soon as we get enough players. Hope to see you there :) ☠️ Before the session, I'll be in contact to firm up character creation, see to last minute safety tools, and develop relationships between your character and the world. Some attention will also be paid to this on the day.

I had an absolute blast playing in this game! The setting was rich and immersive, and the adventure—delving into ancient ruins to discover it's mysteries—was both engaging and full of interesting choices. Our group ultimately decided to destroy the weapon that was found in the ruins rather than risk its power falling into the wrong hands, and the way the DM handled our decisions made the world feel alive and reactive. The pacing, challenges, and storytelling were all fantastic, making for a truly memorable session. I will definitely be playing in this DM’s games again. Highly recommended!

Ben has created a world that combines fun, tension, realism and humour. His voices are great, his plots are beautifully paced. The maps set the scene well. A great way to spend an evening.

Ben is an amazing DM. He runs very detailed and whimsical games whilst also knowing when to get more serious. Combats were all fun and inventive and allowed for the perfect amount of pc shennanigans. Absolutely recomend spending some time playing with him.

Had a very fun and insightful session 0 where we discussed some campaign rules, themes and custom homebrew. GM was very accommodating and helpful when balancing character and homebrew ideas. Sessions themselves were very fun. He set up ambient music that fit the atmosphere and described environments and landscapes vividly and allowed for character creativity when resolving conflicts or solving puzzles. Lots of memorable NPCs and events delivered with funny yet immersive voice acting and dialogue.

How to prepare

Before the session, please roll up a character sheet, have a webcam and mic on which to play, and feel free to message me with any questions :)

What I provide

🐉I encourage in-character roleplaying, player choice, and creative choices. Expect an engaging story that you have a say in - give me a backstory with a couple of colourful characters in it, and they'll more than likely crop up somewhere in the adventure. ☠️ I run the game on Discord for speaking and Roll20 for combat. 🐉 I make liberal use of in-character dialogue and encourage players to do the same. I also encourage players to argue their cases for things like unorthodox skill checks, however ask that they respect my final ruling. ☠️I use background music for those who want it, but one of the reasons I run games on discord is that it can be turned down or off individually. 🐉I can supply pdfs of all core rulebooks and some snazzy character sheets. ☠️ And, finally, I'm a professional voice actor, so expect high-quality narration in terms of both content and sound quality - check my DM profile's Youtube link for some sample narration!

Gameplay details

Before we begin, we'll finalize character creation, and a discuss any triggers players might have for one's own character and the game in general. The game itself will largely be story driven, but that doesn't mean you won't have think tactically and rely on your companions when you do get into combat. Fun is what we're all here for, and sometimes nothing is more fun than a well-applied fireball.

How will character creation work

Starting at level 3 using roll4drop1. All official races and classes are fine, however run any homebrew by me first. From a roleplaying perspective, your character needs a reason to be in the run-down pirate town of New New Absolution, and to not have a fight-or-flight response to being aboard a pirate ship. Before the session, I'll need an image for your character token, a brief summary of your character, and a way of viewing your character sheet, all sent to me on discord.
