About the adventure

For centuries, the lands of the Barovia have existed under the shadow of the vampire Strahd. Few in the lands remember the times when Barovia was a land of light and hope, and fewer still know how the curse of darkness befell Barovia. Even during the day, thick clouds keep the lands of Barovia plunged into an eternal gloom. But even in the darkness, a spark of hope remains. Ireena Kolyana - daughter of the late Kolyan Indirovich, Burgomaster of Barovia - is amassing a group of brave souls in a desperate attempt to free Barovia from the tyrant that resides within Castle Ravenloft, and she needs your help. Curse of Strahd (Tatyana's Version) is a reimagining of the classic Curse of Strahd module, restructuring the module from relying on predatory tropes that portray women as objects of desire to a narrative that instead explores the effects of rage and grief from the lens of the gothic horror genre. The classic characters of the original story have been given new life. Whether you're brand new to the module or have seen it before, this re-telling will offer new twists and a fresh (and far less problematic) take for all lovers of the genre to enjoy. - - - - - Due to the nature of the genre, safety tools will be in effect through the game and all players will be asked to complete a survey about possible triggers and lines and veils. Players will also be expected to adhere to all safety tools during games and be mindful of each other.

About me

My name's Erin, also known as Travel Nerd Erin. I'm a nurse educatorby trade who also has a deep love for storytelling. I've been a GM/storyteller for over 15 years. My deep loves are gothic horror and Asian folklore inspired stories. I've had the opportunity to DM stories of my own making at events like Gen Con and D3 at Sea, and it is an honor to have such a variety of opportunities to facilitate weaving incredible stories with people from all over the world. While D&D tends to be my primary focus as a GM, I also love other systems! I'm particularly interested in Through the Breach, Vampire the Masquerade, and a number of Powered by the Apocalypse games. Exploring diverse settings and systems is a love of mine, and I love to introduce folks to new options in gaming.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation guidelines will be provided after joining the campaign and discussed further during session zero. Characters will begin at level 1. Players joining at a later time will be invited to have a one-on-one call before joining the campaign to discuss character build.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

A mic is necessary and a webcam is strongly encouraged in order to provide a more personal experience for all players. Voice and video will utilize Discord. A basic understanding of the D&D 5e rules is required for this game. Players will also need a free D&D Beyond account and a Roll20 account, as these will be used for character sheets and combat maps respectively.

What Erin (aka TravelNerding) brings to the table

A D&D Beyond campaign link will be provided with content sharing turned on, making most official content available to all players. Audio and Video will be hosted on Discord (alternatively, Zoom is an option), while Roll20 will be utilized for maps. As a DM, I want to create an immersive story experience as much as possible. I utilize maps and images to aid with immersion. I also use ambient sound and music, which players can also opt out of if needed for audio processing ease.

Homebrew rules

How Erin (aka TravelNerding) creates a safe table

My game tables prioritize the safety and comfort of players, especially with regards to players from marginalized identities. Harassment (to include racist, sexist, homophobic, or transphobic behavior) will not be tolerated and any of these behaviors toward another player will result in removal from the game without a refund for the session. Prior to session zero, all players will be asked to fill out a survey regarding lines and veils. These lines and veils will be given to all players in an anonymously compiled fashion. Players will be expected to adhere to these, and reminders will be given as needed. The X card will be available for use in a messaged and/or visual fashion during games. Due to shorter session length, a scheduled break will not be planned into the session unless desired by the group, but players are encouraged to step away if needed. A period of debriefing to include Affirmations and Wishes will be utilized at the end of each session.
