Hogwarts, but its DnD - Strixhaven || Expanded || Magical School
Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign
About the adventure
Have you ever wanted to attend a school for those with magical gifts? Have you ever wanted to mix scenarios that have an emphasis on classes/exams with open world or emergent gameplay? This is the one for you. For those that haven't played Strixhaven: Curriculum of Chaos, it is a module for 5th Edition Dungeons and Dragons that features a magical school called Strixhaven, kind of like Hogwarts but for DnD. I have created a list of expanded classes for the party to take, as well as long lasting rewards that can be gained depending on how well the individual does! Players will be able to take classes and exams while also having an emerging story take place alongside those classes that draws the party together. If you have played Hogwarts: Legacy, then you have an idea of what I mean. Here is a sneak peak at some of the available classes: Fundamentals of Arcane Theory Mystical Runes and Glyphs Introduction to Divination Illusions and Altered Perception and more! Join me as we work together to create a curriculum of interesting classes you will enjoy, and create the systems and mechanics that are rewarding for all. The length of this campaign could run for up to a full year, or even more with dedicated weekly sessions! If you enjoy a more hearty wizarding school experience, this is a great option for you. I am more than willing to answer any questions, concerns or otherwise so feel free to ask!

Darren has GM'ed several campaigns for me and I've had him run multiple one shot sessions for different groups of friends involving both long and short session formats, the time and effort he puts in behind the scenes before each session is obvious and I have found he is always comfortable to discuss things with outside of games whether it be a request for custom material (excellent at power balancing for more enjoyability or flavour) or having a concerns about player relations, honestly can't recommend him enough! Pile in with your buddies or snag a seat just for yourself and let him weave a memorable tale that will forge a group of strangers into friends. This, avid adventurer, is your call to action! Still on the fence? give him a chance roll that D20 and let him wow you with words
Oh baby are you in for a ride. I've played with this GM over multiple campaigns and he always know how to build tension and twist that knife for some truely epic cliffhangers. If that wasn't enough, he loves creative characters and believes in player experience first. He will always weave your character's backstories into the narrative and find truely awsome ways to incorperate your story into the main story. I cannot reccomend him enough. One of the best experiences of my life.
As a player in one of Darren's long-term homebrew campaigns, I've had the privilege to experience firsthand the incredible depth and creativity he brings to the table. Week after week, Darren consistently delivers epic storylines that are engaging and immersive, seamlessly blending his intricate plot development with spontaneous, character-driven moments that keep us players on our toes, all the while pulling incessantly at our heartstrings. Furthermore, I am forever amazed at his vast knowledge of mechanics and how he utilizes them to create unique, challenging encounters that can stump even the most seasoned players. His unique ability to craft narrative arcs that draw you deeper and deeper into his world is unparalleled, with each session a new chapter in an unfolding epic. Beyond his storytelling and mechanical mastery, Darren creates a welcoming and friendly atmosphere for all players. Having entered his campaign as a complete "noob" several years ago (PS - I'm still a noob), he never once made me feel like I wasn't valued or included. Having played at several other tables over the years, I believe that this combination of an inviting environment and engaging content makes Darren's games stand out from the rest. Undoubtedly, Darren is a highly skilled Game Master, and I know that he has the skillset necessary to succeed as a pro. Any table lucky enough to experience his storytelling will quickly see just how exceptional his games truly are.

Session 0 will be free, as I assume many DM's do. I will include the Monte Cook RPG Consent Checklist in the preparation materials, which you will be able to view upon joining. Those those unsure of what this is, it is simply a checklist of items that you can say you would feel a little uneasy with having in the game, or want to have removed outright.

How will character creation work
Character Options: All character types and class combos from any official D&D source book! Third Party content is subject to approval, simply because I have not reviewed them all. These include all 3rd party content from DnD Beyond including but not limited to: Critical Role, Dungeon Dudes/Drakkenheim, Grim Hollow, etc etc. Basically any official species/race is permitted as Strixhaven attracts the magically gifted from all corners. ---------------- Starting Level: 3 Ending Level: 10 ---------------- 2024 vs 2014 characters: I believe players should be allowed to stay with 2014 rules if they wish, its basically a different edition but WOTC (creators of DnD) refuse to label it as such. So for this campaign, you can choose to make a fully 2024 or fully 2014 character. Keep in mind that you cannot choose 2024 options if you are playing a fully 2014 character. This includes to fancy new weapon masteries, updated class/subclass options, updated feats list, etc etc. 2024 characters however can access any parts of 2014 that have not been updated, including subclasses. Banned Spells, Features and Traits: While I don't really want to outright ban any options, I do think some could pose a problem if used excessively. If that becomes the case, I will work with you to help tune the spell or features in such a way that they are still fun and engaging, without ruining content for others. I hope you understand!
