I’ve played in several of Jackfelgar’s sessions over the last decade and a half. He always puts a lot of thought and care into his story but is ready for a quick improv when the players try to mess with the plan. He always does awesome character voices but isn’t going to pressure you to do the same level of character role playing. Even if you’ve never played a game before, Jack is more than patient with helping you learn the ropes and guide you into the game smoothly. 10/10 highly recommend!!!

Jackfelgar is an incredible DM. I’ve played with him on several occasions, and he’s incredibly inclusive, and creates vivid sessions. Hands down one of the best DMs I’ve ever had.

I played with Jack as a DM for close to a year at an open adventure style game. We sometimes had 4 at the table, most times even more, I think we had 12 at our highest player count for a session once. He was running two separate instances of these games every week. Jack did a truly impressive job at balancing and adjusting with/for so many players who may or may not have been there week to week. I personally was able to flesh out and build an engaging character for myself with close friendships with NPCs and other players, as were many others, while also keeping engagement for players who were more focused on action > role play at a healthy level. We started off playing with some Strixhaven locales and NPCs [writing actual classes and exams for us to take!] and he used that to vault us into some more custom content using other modules and books to build it out. I had such an invigorating time at his tables, and I have zero doubt that with a consistent group who are able to communicate their wants/expectations with him before hand and during that he will ABSOLUTELY deliver you an imagination playground that you won't want to stop playing in. I hope you have the best of times with him!

My review is detailed and thorough, because that is what Jack deserves. Please take the time to read it, because good people, like Jack, deserve it. <3 I loved Jack's TTRPG games he has GM-ed for me. Each session has been inclusive, immersive, and interactive. Where I Met Jack: I had the honor of playing in-person at his table when I was new to the D&D world a few years ago, and it left a lasting, positive impression on me. (His style is actually what I mimic my GM-ing after! Thank you, Jack!) His Game Style: He is patient, immersive, and a great "go with the flow" improvisional kind of DM. I love that he knows the rules, but doesn't necessarily let those rules dictate the fun at his table. I really like his play/RP style and how he keeps things moving smoothly with descriptions and important details to our quests/missions. World building was top notch, and he is also a fabulous note taker, and takes his job as DM to heart. That is a MUST have IMO for both long campaigns and being a GM/DM. His Play Style: When I was playing at his table, he was doing all this amazing prep work for free, and I really couldn't believe it. Hours of work behind the game before each session to me blew my mind. I know now it is because he is passionate and caring about our PC experiences, in game and out. He knows life can be kinda shitty sometimes, and sometimes, you just need a win. (That is the kind of experience and energy you can prepare to receive.) He is truly a remarkable person in general, not just at the table, and I'm not just blowing smoke up your ass. It was the safest I've ever felt at a gaming store filled with other people that I didn't know very well. I love and cherished every moment of that game with Jack! (He even let me be extra special on my last day with the group, because I had to leave due to scheduling conflicts...it was so magical and looking back I now even more so appreciate how he allowed my character to depart.) In Game Experience: I remember one session specifically where I literally could not breathe because I was laughing so hard at his NPC reactions to our antics. It was the hardest I'd ever laughed in my life, and it still holds the record after all these years... Gameplay Style: My personal type of PC game style is roleplaying heavy, and GREATLY enjoyed his well-thought out NPC's that were full of surprises! (Things aren't always what they seem, and I LOVE that mystery.) Additionally, I was able to observe his other PC interactions as we had not only RP styles, but also a couple Min/Maxers at the table at the time, and he taylored well to BOTH playing styles. (Which, as you know, is a hard line to toe.) Summary: Whether you're up for a crazy/cool one shot, OR an incredible epic campaign, Jack would be my DM pick/recommendation. (There is a reason he is deemed the "Forever DM" in our local gaming area, because he is THAT good and everyone loves him....) Not to sound cliche, but he is honestly a Jack of All Trades AND a Dungeon Master of awesome. Cheers, Jack!!

Jack is the best kind of DM - he is great about cooking between sessions to establish an interesting universe to play around in or getting comfortable with the prewritten material so that he knows it back to front; but he is also always willing and excited to let the players bend what happens to their will and just see where the story takes him. He's a great talker and if you tell a funny joke (or even a slightly unfunny one) his laugh will make you feel like you landed the perfect piece of comedy.

How to prepare

Have a character created and submitted to me before the game starts so that I can review it. You will need a computer with a microphone of some kind (headset, internal, etc). Face-cam is optional. (I will be using one for performance) Bring your own dice if you would like. There is a dice roller on Roll20, but I can understand the call of the clickety clackety. You may also want a Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition Players Handbook (2014) and any supplemental rules from sources related to your character.

What I provide

About Jackfelgar: -I bring to the table my 15 years of experience in the game. I have been running games weekly for 8 years. -I have and will remain a staunch ally for the LGBTQ+ community. -I was raised by my Italian mother so cursing comes naturally. (No racial of homophobic statements). -I strive to be fair in my gaming judgements. -I enjoy jokes and humor at my table, with the heavy content of this campaign I would encourage it. (Just don't hurt narrative flow or undercut anyone.) -I love the rule of cool, reward outside the box thinking, and encourage strong character choices. -I will be incorporating ambience and music. (I may even sing a bit) -Prepare for Community Theater level voice work from me. About the Mask and The Tower: -Gothic Horror Romance Mystery -Emphasis will be on the vibe and story telling -Combat will happen but is unlikely to be very deep. -Check the content warnings as there will be some rough stuff in the story. -Campaign is a miniseries of 3 session (not including a session zero which will take place on the first Saturday) -Session zero will be about sharing our characters with each other! We will also go over comfort levels and review how the safety tools will work during play. I hope it will be a good icebreaker for us all! (It is optional)

Gameplay details

-I will be inviting players to a free session 0 as a party, so everyone can get a vibe check for each other. I like establishing everything that people may be uncomfortable with up front so I can take note of it whether in private or for the group to hear. This will help set a standard for everyone else to respect those boundaries for each other. -The X, O and N cards will be used in game to verify everyone's comfort and maintain the safety and security of myself and my players. We may not cover every single thing that could make someone uncomfortable and we should have a way to mitigate that. -A Debrief is a bit of experiences, reflection and hopefully a decompression from the heavier parts of my stories. I like to delve into dark content but only with the context that we can view it from the safety of fantasy/storytelling. -Open door will be used because I want to be accommodating to personal needs. If you need to walk away from the computer for self care or life needs, no questions will be asked. When you have returned I will update you on anything that happened during your break and we will continue rolling along (pun intended).

How will character creation work

Characters should be from official Wizards of the Coast 5e (2014) classes and race choices. Stats will be done via Standard array (15,14,13,12,10,8). Characters will be starting at level 5. Have your characters ready before the 1st session or Session 0. I would encourage you to join our session zero to get character introductions done, learn chosen character pronouns and establish relationships in our adventuring party. This will also let us all get to know the players! (Pronouns, interests, play style, etc.) Also we can make some decisions on flanking (yes or no) and critical hits calculation (roll twice, double single roll, max damage for attack and roll again).
