About the adventure

"The Great Conquest ended 10 Centuries ago But the Black Blood prevented us from returning Home. Now, we are stuck in the Abyss." This world exists in the Abyss, where KNIGHTS and ORACLES have rebuilt society upon the honor of Oaths. Players may be either a KNIGHT, or an ORACLE, serving the realm in varied and unique ways. KNIGHTS are fueled by their Oaths which drives them to perform great acts of Glory for the realm, while ORACLES instead choose the path of Corruption, not necessarily for evil purposes, but to gain insight from the Dead Leviathan in which society is built upon. These ORACLES in turn hold great power over the KNIGHTS of the realm, able to divine the future and guide them along their right paths in life. This is a world that was once Dark Fantasy, but in the age that players live in, it is slowly becoming more High Fantasy. KNIGHTS are heroes that bards sing songs about in taverns, and ORACLES are revered as strange, but powerful mages. High Fantasy is about scale, and grandeur, and in the world of KNIGHTS of the Abyss, it's about Glory.

About me

Hi, my name is Korbin Johns. I've been DMing for 5+ years across multiple campaigns. Here are some games i've run in the past; "Lost Call" a campaign that stretched across the pirate's coast, where a fiendish army seeks to raze the entire region so that they may return their son, a member of the party, to their home. "The Deep" an absurd concept; the party is part of a reality television show. The only different between our reality and this one? The television show takes place in a massive abandoned space facility operated by an evil A.I. "The Rot" A grim dark fantasy world sitting at the bottom of a marsh swamp that no man is prohibited from leaving. I am a Dungeon Master who values spectacle and technology. I seek to bring highlight moments to my games through the use of technology. I am well versed in FoundryVTT, as well as multiple different forms of A.I. Audio and Video that I use to enhance my gaming experience.

Character creation
Creating your character

I do character creation as part of session 0. All of us will get together in a call, discuss scheduling, do's and dont's, and then discuss how the party is coming together, and if there are any background ties to each other. I would say it is important to come to character creation with a character concept you're interested in playing but have a backup or two prepared in case it turns out that concept #1 won't fit.

The current party

Here is a link to my Player's Guide. You are not expected to read all of it before session 0. https://drive.google.com/file/d/16FCDKAJOeEWex5pgT8Uq2RiQg-W4IDb9/view?usp=sharing

What to expect
Preparing for the session

This is the #1 most important thing I need from you: A mic that works with minimal background noise. I need to be able to hear you so that I can roleplay, and if it's the case that your mic quality is too scuffed, it's going cause issues. Webcam isn't necessary.

What Korbin Johns brings to the table

I bring these things to my table: 1 - FoundryVTT and the ability to run it properly. 2 - Visual Aids. I'm skilled in Photoshop, Premiere, and Fl Studio. 3 - A 50+ Guidebook for my homebrew world. Regarding the way I run the game: 1 - Rule of Cool is important to me. You are heroes in my world, you should be able to act like one. 2 - Character Voices. I'll be the first to say that i'm not a voice actor, but I think it's important to attempt voices, mostly because it helps make other people feel more comfortable at the table. 3 - Homebrew. I allow homebrew at my table. 4 - I run decent combats, but am no tactician. In fact, I would go as far as to say that tacticians might not have as much fun in my combats.

How Korbin Johns creates a safe table

In session 0 I'll give a quick breakdown of the kinds of topics I typically explore in my D&D games, as well as the ones I'm personally not okay with exploring. I'll open up the floor for players to mention anything they aren't okay with exploring, either in the session 0, or privately in DMs if they feel more comfortable.
