Long ago, in the age of heroes, a great evil was slain. The cannibal witch Belcorra Haruvex met her end, and her tower of terrors was sealed shut. With none of her aberrations or monstrosities left to terrorize the world, the town of Otari flourished in her absence. As time ticked on, the evils perpetrated in her fortress were forgotten, relegated to nursery rhymes or old wives’ tales. She posed no threat to us. At least, that’s what we all believed. Otari’s citizens awoke one day to a strange sight — Belcorra’s supposedly abandoned tower has begun to glow. An eerie shade of blue serves as warning: something is stirring within. Perhaps it is nothing, some mindless fey or other sentient creature holing up in a decrepit abandoned sanctuary. That would be a nice thought. Then again, were it truly nothing, why does the hair stand up on the back of your neck every time you cast your gaze towards the light? Why do you have a creeping sense that the evil the Gauntlight once held is not dead, but merely dormant? Only one way to know for sure. Gameplay details
The content warnings detailed here list items that are likely to appear in the game. This is not a complete list of sensitive content that might arise in-session. Part of our Session 0 will involve discussing players’ comfort levels with potentially triggering subjects, and the game can be altered to minimize or avoid certain elements. Players who join mid-campaign should discuss these topics with the GM during weekly office hours. Certain themes are so central to the text that to remove them from the game would be to fundamentally alter the campaign. The Abomination Vaults were designed by a cannibal witch who performed medical experiments on her victims, creating grotesque monstrosities who still inhabit the tower. Many of the vaults’ levels are also home to insectoid vermin and other bug-like creatures, and deep standing water is present in certain locations. Tabletop role-playing games are meant to be an escape from the horrors of the real world. Above-table prejudices such as racism, misogyny, homophobia, and transphobia are unacceptable at my table and will lead to your immediate removal without refund, as well as a ban from all future tables hosted by this GM.
