About the adventure

Damn The Man, Save The Music is a one-shot narrative RPG where everyone plays as employees of a record store in the 90s. Choose your archetype and create your character. In fact, create the world around you and live out your slacker movie dreams as The Space Case, The Flirt, or The Wannabe Rock Star, among other characters. Don't get on the boss' bad side, and definitely don't tick off the big star who is using your store as a stop on their tour to reform their tarnished image. Or do, it might actually help. The end goal is to save your record store, because if you don't keep putting out the little fires, you're going to burn the place down.

How to prepare

A Discord account is required Microphone is required I will supply character sheets on the Discord server No need to read the rules, the game will be taught in chat. Character creation will happen at the start of the session as part of the gameplay. A link to a YouTube playlist will be supplied in the Discord server. If you'd like to bring your own dice, that's fine, but the Discord server allows dice rolls.

What I provide

I have a custom Discord server that allows for the required dice rolls and card flips, as well as a recommended song playlist on YouTube Music. The game relies heavily on music, being that it takes place in a record store, so the playlist is definitely recommended. I have an improv background, so I will do characterizations. The rules for the game as a whole are pretty light, so Rule Of Cool definitely rules the day for this game.

Gameplay details

Lines and Veils will be discussed at the start of the game. If there are any hard lines anyone wants to draw, mention it right at the start. If there are topics that might be covered that anyone feels iffy about, we'll discuss that, as well. I will do a quick check-in after the session to make sure everyone is doing alright, and should anyone want to talk I will make myself available. X cards are built into the game. If anyone wants to use an X or N card, they can make a verbal announcement that they are using it. If something comes up that I find could be bothering someone, or if I'm about to get into a topic that could bother someone, I will give a warning. I try to keep my games clean, but due to the nature of the game, I know that certain topics may be unavoidable. I also encourage players to take breaks. If you need the bathroom, you need to have a smoke, you need to do whatever, go do it. If you are feeling overwhelmed by the content, I will not hold it against you if you need to take a breather.

How will character creation work

Character creation will happen at the start of the session, it's actually baked into the game itself as a sort of first act. Everyone chooses an archetype and writes in goals for their characters. If you'd like to get an idea for what the characters look and sound like, I suggest checking out movies like Clerks, Empire Records, Mallrats, Swingers, SLC Punk, 10 Things I Hate About You, and Clueless.
