For Whom You Bleed 🔪 An Insatiable Blades in the Dark Campaign
Blades in the Dark | Campaign
About the adventure
Crime and greed are a way of life in the city of perpetual darkness. The streets whisper secrets of power, and the shadows hide those who dare to seize it. Amidst the chaos, you and your crew must navigate treacherous alliances and ruthless enemies driven by ambition and necessity. Every heist, every betrayal, every drop of blood brings you closer to your insatiable goal. Each new score builds your empire, but one question remains: For Whom will you Bleed? ————————— In this Blades in the Dark campaign, you will play a crew of daring scoundrels seeking their fortunes on the haunted streets of an industrial fantasy city. There are heists, chases, occult mysteries, dangerous bargains, bloody skirmishes, and above all, riches to be had—if you're bold enough to seize them. You and your fledgling crew must strive amidst the threats of rival gangs, powerful noble families, vengeful ghosts, the Bluecoats of the city watch, and the siren song of your scoundrel's own vices. Will you rise to power in the underworld? What are you willing to do to get to the top?

Theater of the Mind
“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.

How to prepare
To get started, you will need a mic. A webcam is not required, but it is much more fun during the session. You will also want to have an account with the following websites: Roll20.net and Discord.com. You will not need to read the rules before session 0 and character creation, but you can if you'd like. I'll give you access to the rules in Roll20 once you've joined the game.
What I provide
I will bring everything you need to get started. I use Roll20 for character sheets, maps, gameplay tracking screens, notes, and rules. You will have access to the entire digital book while in the game and all character creation rules available in the system. As we play, I use the following screens to help players decide what to do when they have the spotlight. (1) A full and detailed map of Duskvol, (2) Score planning screen, (3) Running the score options and clocks, (4) Settling the score worksheet, (5) Downtime actions and long-term project clocks, (6) Factions and situation tracking. I also use a Discord server with group-specific text and voice channels to facilitate communication during play sessions and in between sessions.
Gameplay details
Safety and comfort during play are very important for everyone to have fun at the table. We will set up our safety tools during session zero before creating our characters. These tools will be specific to our group and will remain something we can refer back to as we continue to play. Our session 0 will be a free session where we will do the following: (1) Fill out an anonymous Lines and Veil Form, (2) Review a consolidated list of Lines and Veils and discuss how we will keep it up to date, (3) discuss the kinds of stories we want to tell as a crew, (4) create our crew, and (5) create our characters. At the end of session 0, you should have a good idea of the game we're playing, feel comfortable with the story we will tell, and be excited about our first score. If you don't feel all of these things, feel free to talk with me or bail without notice. I look forward to getting started!

How will character creation work
For Blades in the Dark, character creation is a responsive activity based on the crew we create together and the ideas the whole group brings to session 0. Our campaign will start with session 0 and include crew and character creation after determining our Lines and Veils. To create your character, you will choose a playbook, receive a set number of points to spend on specific actions, and select a special ability. You can then decide your character's background, heritage, vice, name, and contacts with options you can choose from or ignore. Creating a character is simple and straightforward, and it doesn't require writing an entire backstory. As we play the game, the character's backstory and experiences will come out in improvisational play, as if we are the audience watching the story unfold in front of us while we are also in the writing room creating the story as we go.
