About the adventure

Nestled in the rocky foothills of the snow-capped Sword mountains, along the Triboar is the mining town of Phandalin, which consists of forty or fifty simple log buildings. Phandalins' residents are quiet, hard-working folk who came from distant cities to eke out a life amid the harsh wilderness. They are farmers, stonecutters, blacksmiths, traders, prospectors, and children. The town has no walls nor garrison, but most adults keep weapons within easy reach if the need for arms arises. Visitors are welcome here, particularly if they have coins to spend or news to share. The Stonehill Inn at the center of town offers modest lodging and meals. A couple of doors down from the inn, posted outside the townmaster's hall, is a job board for adventurers. Driven from lands farther north by more powerful dragons, a white dragon has descended upon the sword mountains. claiming the snow-capped range as its domain. The towering mountains meet frostbitten valleys in a landscape veiled by an eternal winter's embrace. Amidst the unforgiving cold and treacherous slopes, tales of bravery and peril intertwine as daring souls venture forth seeking to unravel the mysteries of this frozen realm and, perhaps, to confront the dragon itself. This mythical dragon, whose very breath freezes the air and whose wings cast shadows over the icy terrain patrols the skies around its peak, surveying its territory while hunting for food and easy treasure. With each passing day, the dragon's domain grows as it ranges farther across the land, preying on anything it may encounter, either catching it with claws or freezing it to death with its icy breath. Sightings of the dragon are becoming more common, as are its attacks. But beware, for in the heart of these icy peaks, danger lurks at every turn, and only the most stalwart and cunning heroes may hope to emerge victorious, are you up for the task?

About me

I am Abe, 33 years old from Stockton, I have been playing DnD for 3+ years as a DM. 6 months of that I only ran one-shots, and the rest I ran with a group of beginners for 2 years and 6 months, and finished our Campaign last month of October 2023. I used roll20 and Discord during my online Campaigns, I create my own maps and effects to immerse my players within my world. I mostly run written modules, add some of my personal spice to them, and make them my own. I always play using 5e RAW, but I apply some homebrew rules to make the game more balanced and fair. My game style is Heroic adventure, Dramatic, Feel-good & Open-world, expect to start @ level 1, Moderate RP, theater of the mind, grid map drawings, 3d Maps and terrains, and miniatures-like tokens. I am open to beginners and experienced and LGBTQ-friendly. I incorporate players' backstories within the world and turn them into side quest adventures and RP opportunities. I am a DM that reviews my player's sheet to make it easy for me to track, guide, and see some details I need during the game like Spells, Passive Perceptions, investigations, and other pieces of information. I also take time to ask everyone what they want to do, I understand the feeling of waiting for your turn to speak, so as a DM I do not wait for that and instead I ask all the players one at a time if there is a specific thing they wanted to accomplish to give them chance to do what they desire. As a DM I am proud of my loyalty and consistency with my schedule and I expect the same from my players, although real life comes first, so all I ask is to be informed if someone will not be able to attend. I will also ask each player about their sensitivity (Insects, blood, harm to children/animals, rats, etc) and respect those issues that might trigger them by simply simplifying them or if possible removing them completely.

Character creation

Creating your character

First thing, you'll want to join my discord using this link. (Reminder, my discord is not a community and just used for running D&D) https://discord.gg/TNh55WDVDV Once joined, please read through our rules General rules and DM rules. You may customize your character using any official races/classes from the Player's Handbook, Tasha's, and Xanathar's. We start our characters at level 1 unless of course we already started the campaign, in which you will create your character at the same level as the party. If you are new or just unsure, I will gladly give you a hand and discuss what your character is good at or his/her motivation.

What Simple_DM brings to the table

Expect to start @ level 1, Moderate RP, theater of the mind, grid map drawings, 3d Maps and terrains, and miniatures-like tokens. I run my games in roll20 with my custom maps and tokens. I also do voices (try to) and use ambient music to set the scene. I provide level-headed combats but also challenging ones depending on the encounter. I mostly follow RAW but if it's awesome we do the rule of cool.

Safety

How Simple_DM creates a safe table

In session 0 we discuss the rules, personal boundaries, and expectations about the game. We also included how your character flaws act out so it won't send or give bad impressions to other players (e.g. I still my companion's shoes all the time) so the other players can confirm if that is okay or not saving us a whole lot of time and avoiding ruining someone's experience. Safety tools are set within roll20 and whenever you feel the scene is too much for you, you can trigger these tools and we will skip/black out things that make you uncomfortable.
