About the adventure
The inhabitants of a small town have enlisted the help of a local adventurers guild to slay a fearsome beast that is devouring their sheep - as well as one of their nobility! In the course of the investigation into how to track down and kill the beast however, you may discover that not all is as it seems, and some of these townsfolk have something to hide... This is a homebrew adventure that I wrote and have run several times, and I'm always delighted to see the various ways people approach the story! I am very open to player input, and will take the story where the group wants it to go. This is NOT a story with just one way to succeed! I have several pre-made characters that you can use, or you can create your own level 3 character. If you're looking for a classic D&D adventure, then I think you'll be very happy with this one-shot. Are you brave enough to slay the beast??

About me
It's your friendly neighbourhood Canadian GM here! My name is Seth, and I'm a Math Teacher who's run a Dungeons & Dragons club at my school for 4 years, DM'd for about 8 years, and am very passionate about the game. I'm also in a local recurring Dungeons & Drag Queens campaign where I perform in Drag and do a liveplay event as a player! Very queer-friendly, I particularly cater to roleplay-focused groups who want to have a good time and tell a cool story together. The rules are there to guide you towards a fun time, but I'm a big believer in Yes-And-ing players to make a more exciting game where players feel in control of their narrative. I'm happy to help those who aren't used to the game - especially if you're trying a system you've never tried before. I am currently obsessed with running one-shot Call of Cthulhu games, and have several campaigns I've written for 5th edition D&D. I've also dabbled in Changeling the Lost and Star Wars, and love exploring new systems. This summer since I won't be teaching so I wanted to hone my skills GMing for people online! Come have a great time!

Creating your character
Players should start at 3rd level and can bring their own character or choose a pre-made character. Please only use the Standard Array or Point-Buy system if you make your own character just so nothing is too broken ;) If you bring your own character sheet, please share it with me so that if you run into any issues I can help you sort them out - particularly if you are new to TTRPGs. I'm quite open to character ideas, though I prefer to avoid overly "jokey" characters. By all means, I love comedy! But a one-note character can get stale fast, and D&D is best enjoyed when EVERYONE is having a good time. Feel free to use any official resource to make your character, but remember that they should have a clear motivation for WANTING to go on an adventure. You should be able to sum up in a sentence why they are here/why they need to complete this quest.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Players need to sign up for Alchemy "https://app.alchemyrpg.com/" and make sure they have a working webcam and mic. If players wish, they can make a character ahead of time or they can choose one of the pre-generated characters I've created. These will be on a first-come-first-served basis so if multiple players want to take a pre-generated character they'll need to let me know which one they want sooner rather than later. I am very beginner-friendly, I just ask that you come willing to learn, and ready to listen!
What Seth Kay brings to the table
Players can expect a VTT (virtual table-top) experience that I will be running on Alchemy. This is a website that offers more immersion and player interaction with a largely Theatre of the Mind campaign. Instead of simply staring at other people's faces, you will have artwork depicting the scene, music that goes along with it, and battlemaps you can interact with during combat. I strive to make sure that the experience I deliver is well worth the money, and not simply a run of the mill Video call! I do my best to do voices when possible, and am definitely more of a "rule of cool" DM vs RAW. I hope my players will be willing to engage in Roleplay and really sink their teeth into the world that I present them with. I do not expect crazy long character summaries or anything (I even have pre-made characters to choose from if you prefer), but I do encourage players to have a "North Star" for roleplay that will help them make decisions such as "Nothing is more important than family.", "The law is the foundation for society, and must be obeyed no matter what.", "I live for adventure, and seek to be a hero above all else".

How Seth Kay creates a safe table
Players can expect to receive a link to a google form to fill out prior to the game's start time that goes over lines and veils for the game. As we will be using Alchemy to run the game, there is a built in feature for an "X" card that players can anonymously send if they are uncomfortable with a topic/scene and want to skip past it.
