About the adventure

Your good friend Gundren Rockseeker has entrusted you with a task. Retrieve a certain object from its resting place, then bring it to him and his brothers in the frontier town of Phandelin in one week's time. He has given your small group a map of the object's location, a bag of gold coins, and a password. Welcome to the Lost Mine of Phandelver adventure. Certain things have been edited from the original release to make the adventure more enjoyable for you as a player. Please know that while the game is marked 18+ we will not be discussing Adult Themes during play, I just don't have the energy to handle teenagers.

About me

Playing and running dungeons and dragons since the early 90s. I've played OD&D, B/X, 2E, 3.5, 5E, Pathfinder 1E, Shadowrun 5E. I write adventure modules, fantasy fiction stories, and program video games as a hobby. I have a passion for old school mechanics and resource management, as well as deep immersion into the games world.

Character creation

Creating your character

During session 0 we will collectively, as a group, discuss character concepts and expectations from the game. We will discover your party's connection to Gundren Rockseeker as each other. Once everyone's characters are built we will proceed to a mini adventure where your party retrieves the object for Gundren.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need: A computer or tablet to play the game on, phone screens are just too small to work easily. A roll20 account and discord account. A good headset microphone, and an area free of background noise are required, I have had a player in the past who have had no choice but to be on voice comms during a bingo night at an elderly care facility, never again. A good webcam is recommended but not required to play, I understand people can have issues with video. An idea/concept for a character that is an adventurer who wants to go on adventures.

What YourWalkerEx brings to the table

I bring everything you will need to create your character, work them into the world, and get to enjoying dungeons and dragons. I run the games on Roll20 using discord for voice and video. I do not play combat as sport, it is quick, vicious, and deadly; however, you do not have to kill every enemy on the field, if you can break their spirit the chance is good they will flee or surrender.

Homebrew rules

I use 10 minute dungeon exploration turns, you should know that. Flanking and attacks of opportunity are optional rules that are decided by the group. Short rests are 20 minutes (2 turns) instead of 60 minutes (6 turns) Long rests DO NOT completely refill your hp unless they are taken in town. Long rests CAN NOT be taken in a dungeon.

Safety

How YourWalkerEx creates a safe table

I believe it is very important to have open and honest discussions with the players I am working with, before, during, and after the games. A strong introductory session/ session 0 to set the expectations of both myself as your game master, and you as my players. Breaks during the game after strong emotional moments to make sure everyone is doing okay and allow the group to process what just happened. Time together after the game to wind down, talk about what just happened, and come out of game mode. It is also important for you to be aware that every session I run will be recorded to a private unlisted video on youtube for training and quality assurance. The video will never be shared with anyone outside of Startplaying.games staff, and only then in such cases as it is required to settle a dispute. This disclaimer will be stated again, both audibly and in text, at the start of every session.
