About the adventure

Sometimes the law can get in the way of justice. When it does, the mysterious group known as the Golden Vault sends in their operatives. This clandestine organization is in the business of righting moral wrongs, supporting virtuous underdogs, and handling delicate situations local authorities won't touch. It is with the Vault that an adventurer can prove that not all heroes where shining armor. Mission: Impossible meets Dungeons & Dragons in this high fantasy heist adventure. What role will you character fill in this crew? For every member of a heist team brings their own strengths. Are you the Face, the Muscle, the Safe Cracker, the Cat Burglar, the Hacker, or even the Gadget Guy? Whatever your role, you'll need to work together to overcome whatever obstacles and security lie between you and the prize.

About me

A Critter with a passion for story telling. I have been playing and running TTRPGs for eight years. Most of my time behind the screen has been 5E, but I have played in dozens of other systems and settings. I thrive in narrative forward games where the PCs drive the story and their choices matter. Rules in my game are important, but never as important as the story we are trying to tell together. I encourage everyone at the table to take an active part in creating the world and telling the story. Nevertheless, my main focus is making sure everyone at the table is having fun...it is a game after all.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be created during a free Session 0 on Foundry VTT. We will be using Point Buy or Standard Array (player choice) with a free feat at first level. Any published 5E (2014) WotC material is allowed.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Webcam is optional but a mic is required. An account with Discord (free). A computer with an internet browser.

What GM Josh brings to the table

You are the main character of our story and I do my best to make sure that happens. Challenges presented are to make you feel powerful when you overcome them, and I want you to win. I have a solid grasp of the rules and use them to keep things consistent, but am never afraid of leaning into the Rule of Cool. Whatever it takes to have fun and tell a memorable story together. I provide maps/tokens and shared documents via a VTT that I create and maintain. I do my best to make each character's voice distinct. Sometimes by changing my own voice/accent and sometimes by portraying their individual goals and motivations. This campaign is meant to rely more on your character's skills and abilities than their combat prowess. Combat is often not the best option when your party is trying to get in and out quickly and quietly, but it can happen. If you're looking for a campaign that you can brute force your way through, this is probably not the campaign for you.

Homebrew rules

Drinking a HEALING potion is a bonus action. Critical hits are (max damage dice) +(roll) + (modifier) Characters with features like Goliath's Powerful Build can use two-hand weapons with one hand. I'm sure there are other minor ones, but in general I follow the Rule of Cool. I want you to tell a cool and interesting story with your character so I tend to lean my rulings in that/your direction.

Safety

How GM Josh creates a safe table

Session 0 will be used as a time to discuss expectations and a final warning of sensitive subject matter set to come in the adventure. All table members are welcomed to share their boundaries or reservations both privately or at the table. Lines and Veils will be discussed as a table so all players are aware and can respect others' boundaries. A RPG Consent Checklist will be shared for all players to fill out before the first session. X cards can be played on the VTT and anonymously displayed to all players.
