About the adventure

Salutations, champion, You have been cordially invited to celebrate the upcoming Kalends with the Winter Court. It is the pleasure of Grand Duchess Maerwynn, archfey of the Seelie court, Lady of the Frost, ruler of the Hinterlands, to host on this most auspicious anniversary the Saturnalian games, at the Pleasure of Queen Titania of the Summer. This season, we rejoice in the bonds of fellowship among the Seelie of the Wilds, and make merry under the banner of the White Duchess. You, chosen champion of your court, have been nominated to participate in the Saturnalian games and display the grace and might of your people. Victors shall receive a glorious prize from the benevolence of the White Duchess. Consider well what boon you crave from her mercy, but beware and gird yourself for the upcoming challenge, as these are games of stakes and glory. Present this letter at the border of the Hinterlands for entry. Good luck, champion, and Io, Saturnalia! Ochortaigh, first secretary of the Winter Court On behalf of her worship the Queen of Winter, etc, Grand Duchess Maerwynn of the Hinterlands While this campaign has a focus on challenges and combat, please come prepared for investigation and RP as well. Character voices are encouraged but not required.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will be done one on one with the GM after session 0 but before the campaign. Much of the character building will be discussed by text over discord or on-site messaging. There will be NO CHARGE for any time spent on character creation. I am happy to provide as much or as little assistance on mechanical character building as required, but everything must be reviewed and approved before the campaign. I allow official wizards of the coast mechanics only, and NO outside content/unearthed arcana. There will be setting-related limits to races from extended sourcebooks, which can be discussed during session 0/character creation. We will begin at level 8. Please be aware that this is a custom setting! I will be providing lore documents and locations, and I will be happy to help construct a backstory that works with the setting and overarching campaign plot. We will be rolling for stats.

The current party

The first session will be brief, free session zero to go over safety tools, character creation, and basic lore.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will need: -Dice (digital is fine) -A webcam, a mic, and consistent internet connection -Access to zoom (this DOES NOT mean you need an account, just access to the site) -A discord account -A completed & approved character sheet This campaign is open to players of all skill level and I'm more than willing to teach newcomers the ropes, though this particular campaign begins at level 8 so some familiarity with mechanics is recommended.

What Lucy brings to the table

- D&D rulebooks - Assistance building character sheets - Original setting and enemies - Custom character-driven campaign - Music - Rule of Cool - NPC voices I will work with players to develop an appropriate character and backstory for the setting. No players need access to any core rule books, though it can help. I generally prefer to use theater of the mind and seldom use combat maps, though there may be terrain or location maps. Though I'm not a professional voice actor by any means, I'm a believer in character voices and I love dramatic RP and involved character arcs. Note: I do not allow new players to build sheets in D&D beyond, though experienced players are welcome to use whatever works best for them. I generally prefer to use theater of the mind and seldom use combat maps.

Safety

How Lucy creates a safe table

It's important to me that everyone in the table is engaged in an open, respectful dialogue about boundaries and consent. TTRPGS can deal with extremely dark and personal themes, and checking in as friends and fellow members of the community is critical to a safe, fun experience. I'm always open to discussion and adapting the campaign to work for everyone, either between sessions or, in urgent situations, adjusting on the fly. The most important thing in a TTRPG is that every member of the party is enjoying themselves, which is why I require players to participate in a session 0 and review prep material ahead of time in order to set expectations. Specific details of any safety tools used in the campaign will be agreed upon in said session. IMPORTANT: this game involves a competition arc that portrays organized violence for viewing entertainment and profit. It also involves political machinations and potential instances of treason/betrayal. Additionally, this game takes place in a world of Fey, who are well known for being capricious and cruel, and love tricks that may involve harm/pain/loss for purposes of entertainment/gambling. Characters will exist in a rigid hierarchy. Character voices are encouraged but not required. Please be prepared for mystery and RP.
