About the adventure

The world is freezing solid. Icewind Dale has been in perpetual winter for around 2 years now. What little vegetation existed in the land has been eradicated, animals and the locals have also suffered and fallen victim to the immense cold. Yet still some outsiders arrive to this land, refugees that had nowhere else to go, or brave adventurers that wish to save the land. There are many theories about who is at fault here. Some say members of the Arcane Brotherhood, a group of powerful wizards, has sent its members to control the weather for their own gain, whatever that might be. Others believe that the one that is at fault, is Auril the Frostmaiden, the Goddess of Winter. Some even claim they have seen her, casting a godly spell every night, that surrounds Icewind Dale and the Ten-Towns in her winter veil. Nobody truly knows what's happening here. But one thing is for certain, the source of the evil must be found and stopped. Join us in this great campaign to brave the Cold North! This adventure offers horror, mystery, drama and lots of very memorable scenes! Get immersed in the politics of the Ten-Towns and find out just what is bringing this classic Forgotten Realms setting in such peril! This campaign is an open-world sandbox with heavy attention to mystery. All players are required to pay attention and take notes, since there are dozens of plotlines and characters in every town. If you are a player that enjoys solving mysteries and immersing yourself in the world of Dungeons & Dragons, then this is a campaign for you! Also free level 1 feat!

How to prepare

All players need to have a working mic and a stable internet connection. Webcam is not necessary but always appreciated (it's nice to see the faces of the people you're talking to). Everyone should have a basic understanding of the rules, of course they will be assisted if they don't remember something. Roll20 as well as a Discord account are necessary. Finally, players will need a Syrinscape Online account where I will be streaming music and ambience sounds from.

What I provide

I have a Pro account on Roll20, as well as all core rulebooks that I can share with my players. I am very proficient with scripts and macros on Roll20 that speed up combat a ton. Music and ambience will be streamed from Syrinscape Online.

Gameplay details

Icewind Dale is very heavily based on survival. The weather is constantly cold and can get pretty extreme. Characters need to ensure they get fed, find drinkable water, secure shelter and protect themselves from the elements. The intensity of the survival element will be discussed on Session 0. On Session 0 we will discuss the rulings we will follow (for example vote if we want flanking or not), introduce ourselves, decide on the party composition and go over the way the campaign works. We will roll for stats, but everyone will use the array we roll. If the rolls are bad, we will go with point buy for all. Players get a free feat at level 1. We will use the "X, N and O" cards as macro on Roll20. Players can expect a fast paced and rules light gaming experience.

How will character creation work

Players will start from level 1 and progress to level 11 in the span of this campaign. Each player should have a general idea of what character they'd like to play and then we will make the concept a reality together. Characters will be created at Session 0 or at a later time if someone is on a tight schedule. Every character will have a free feat from character creation! Also this campaign has a selection of secrets that every character has, we roll for them and assign 2 to each character. They give hooks to the characters which helps with their character creation, some of them can be pretty powerful too (Winter Child gives a character resistance to cold damage). The Strixhaven book, the Lucky feat as well as the Hexblade multiclass are banned. Echo Knight Fighter and Chronurgy Wizard are banned as well. Spells that create food are banned specifically for this campaign.
