Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden | Tuesdays

Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden | Tuesdays

Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign

About the adventure

Eternal darkness grips the land, and a never-ending winter blankets the civilization of Ten-Towns. Brave the cold settlement and make your way from town to town as you explore the mystery that surrounds each of these settlements to see if you can bring light back to these darkened lands. From the book itself: "SOME SECRETS ARE WORTH DYING FOR Feel the cold touch of death in this adventure for the world’s greatest roleplaying game. In Icewind Dale, adventure is a dish best served cold. Beneath the unyielding night sky, you stand before a towering glacier and recite an ancient rhyme, causing a crack to form in the great wall of ice. Beyond this yawning fissure, the Caves of Hunger await. And past this icy dungeon is a secret so old and terrifying that few dare speak of it. The mad wizards of the Arcane Brotherhood long to possess that which the god of winter’s wrath has so coldly preserved—as do you! What fantastic secrets and treasures are entombed in the sunless heart of the glacier, and what will their discovery mean for the denizens of Icewind Dale? Can you save Ten-Towns from the Frostmaiden’s everlasting night? Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden is a tale of dark terror that revisits the forlorn, flickering candlelights of civilization known as Ten-Towns and sheds light on the many bone-chilling locations that surround these frontier settlements."

Allan is such an incredible and knowledgeable DM! Played through the entire campaign of Descent Into Avernus from start to finish, and what an amazing experience it truly was! I can't recommend him enough, he's very friendly and creative. I just started another campaign that he's running, and look forward to many more sessions of highly-immersive D&D role-playing, along with some very challenging tactical battles! Not many DMs leave their players consistently feeling a sense of accomplishment after overcoming any battle, hurdle, or scenario, but Allan is a wonderful exception. A gifted maestro, I am so thrilled to continue gaming on with him, and encourage both veterans and curious newcomers to give his games a chance. You won't be disappointed!

At present I have had two great sessions with Allan! Just started my first campaign with him as our GM and very excited for the rest of the adventure. Allan’s visuals, background music and character voices really make an immersive experience for the players. He is inclusive and very helpful to new players like myself. He takes time to answer any questions and nuances. HIGHLY recommend :)

Allan does a great job immersing you into the setting and game. He also has a vast knowledge of the game rules and makes it very easy for beginners or experienced players alike to pop right in and get going. He keeps it very fun and exciting, never knowing if the next encounter will be your characters last or if they will prevail!

My favorite DM so far since I’ve been playing D&D. Excellent story teller. He is very good at moving the story along at a good pace and setting a awesome scene! Has great visuals and maps. I prefer maps and cool visuals. He definitely provides this. 100% recommend to and D&D player new or old!

Allan does a great job of balancing the group chatter and getting to know you/catch-up talks and game play. Play conforms to our group's style (less RP, more tactics), but Allan's enthusiasm for story and character make it clear he'd be just as adept GMing for a group that's RP heavy. Great sessions. Will definitely join one of his games again.

Gameplay details

Parts of this adventure play out like scenes in a horror movie. Although the events of the adventure should make characters feel stressed and anxious, players should be relaxed and having fun. We will be having a break near the 2 hour mark for approx. 10 min. Session 0 will allow a discussion on the kind of story and play that will be involved, and provides players with a chance to review any limits on what topics can be broached in-game.

Any published official D&D material can be used. Characters start at level 1 and can use Point buy (27 points) or default to the standard array of 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, and 8. Session 0 will focus on character creation, but please feel free to bring your character already made if you feel so inclined! We will be using D&D Beyond for character creation.
