About the adventure
In the sleepy town of Sandpoint, secrets lie beneath the surface. The shadows of a forgotten past spur the seeds of adventure and will take your hero from a small harbor town across forests, fields and mountains. Take on goblins, cultists and giants as you become a legendary hero! Rise of the Runelords is a pre-published classic fantasy adventure written by Paizo and converted to D&D 5th edition by me. It will take adventurers from 1st to 18th level and take them from the small town of Sandpoint to monuments across the continent and beyond. It is a perfect blend of roleplaying to combat with a sprinkling of puzzles. In this adventure, there will be daring heroics, dastardly villains and seeds of a growing evil in the land. If you are looking for... - fun, engaging fights - majestic vistas from a forgotten time - tense moments of heroic and daring escapes - NPCs with distinctive voices and goals - your character's backstory to be woven into the past, present and future of the setting ...then, this is the game for you! You will have ample time to build relationships, set your own goals, and make your own achievements. In addition, while the campaign is pre-published, the story will be shaped by the goals, backgrounds and decisions of your characters. This is your campaign and the goal is for your character to become a hero. This is one of my favorite campaigns I've ever run and I can't wait to share it with you. Be brave, adventurer... for the road ahead may be difficult, but the rewards will be legendary.

About me
Looking for the low-level to high-level campaign that you've never been able to complete? Hi! My name is Eli and I'm a professional dungeon master. I run long-term campaigns with a heavy emphasis on roleplay and challenging combat. I like games where you really get to know your character and the world around you, but also feel powerful and engaged when swords flash and magic erupts. My preferred system is Pathfinder 2e, but most of my experience is with Pathfinder 1e and D&D 5th edition. I also put a focus on memorable NPCs -- people with distinctive voices built by their background and worldview. That goes double for antagonists; you will love to hate the enemies that stand in your way. But the game is about your characters. Every game that I GM should feel like the characters already live in the world and their background has affected how the world reacts to them. Even in pre-published adventures, your character changes everything. And I always place player enjoyment first. Creating your character
Character creation will happen during Session Zero with the whole party. This will avoid players creating similar characters without knowledge of other player's decisions. We will also discuss whether characters have previous experience with one another or are strangers brought together by chance. Character stats will be rolled on Foundry, 4d6 drop the lowest, and placed where you see fit. If you roll a character with too many negative scores, we will re-roll until you have a viable character. Starting level will be 1st level. The basic books for character creation will be the Player's Handbook (2014), Tasha's Cauldron of Everything and Xanathar's Guide to Everything. If you would like to use another D&D book or a related third-party book, it will have to be approved before session zero. Many questions will be asked during the character creation process and you DO NOT need to know the answer to all of them, but they will help my (and maybe the other player's) understanding of who your character is and who they want to be.
The adventure has begun! We are currently seeking two players! We have just started the third arc of the campaign and the party is currently 7th level. Any interested players should note that the party is requesting a front-line possibly martial character and/or a character with healing capabilities. The current party is a changeling warlock-bard, an eladrin Bladesinger wizard and a dwarven fighter.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Please make sure you have a free Forge VTT account and send me your information so you may be added to the game. After session zero, if you have character art that you would like to use for your characters, I would gladly create a token that can be used on your character sheet. You will need a microphone and a Discord account for communication in game. Webcams are a plus, but not required. You will be sent a Discord link when you sign up. Character creation will happen via Session Zero with everyone at the table.
What Elijah brings to the table
As a GM, I value immersion -- I want you to feel comfortable living out your character's goals. I put a focus on setting the scene and using vibrant characters (with voices) so that we all feel silly together. Players should never feel obligated to act out their characters, but it is always encouraged. I also value players feeling safe at the table. I'd give my games a solid PG-13 movie rating on content and room for colorful language if everyone at the table is okay with that. This also means that ANYONE is welcome to my table no matter race, religion, gender and sexual orientation. Combat will tend toward challenging, but only exceptional enemies will provide a significant challenge. We will be playing using Foundry VTT using Forge, which will require a free account to access. If you have never used Foundry VTT before, I can set up a small session (15-20 minutes) to familiarize yourself with the VTT. If players have access to character art they want to use, tokens can be created for their specific character. If you do not have previous art, I have access to a service to create an image for you. Music and ambience will accompany the world and I have access to services that provide both.
Homebrew rules
Drinking potions as a bonus action (takes an action to feed another player.) Updated Exhaustion rules (10 levels of exhaustion which give a -1 modifier to rolls until cleared.) Darkvision is renamed low-light vision (allows to see perfectly in dim light and at disadvantage in darkness.) Flanking gives players a +2 bonus (rather than advantage). To use the help action, someone must be proficient in a skill (other than attack rolls).

How Elijah creates a safe table
Lines and Veils will be an active part of character creation in Session Zero as well as with check-ins throughout the game to be sure that the content is still acceptable. If there are any issues a player would like to bring up, I would be happy to address them if the need arises. X-Card will be handled through Discord during the game. Players are expected to be respect all other players in the game. If there are any issues in this regard, they will be addressed immediately. We are here to have fun and adventure together.
