About the adventure

Welcome to the world of Faerun! Our adventure begins where many tales have before, in the rolling hills and vast forests of the Sword Coast along the Triobar Trail. Dragon of Icespire Peak is an introductory adventure designed to take players from levels 1-5. The party is a band of adventurers, out to earn gold and glory in the wild lands of Faerun. Will their names become legend? Or will they meet a grim fate in the jaws of a dragon? If you’ve never played D&D before, or want to dive back in, this is the game for you!

About me

Hello Adventurers! I’ve been playing Dungeons and Dragons for a decade now. DMing for 5-6 years. I’m new to Startplaying, but not new to running games, particularly virtual games. I primarily run published adventures, but have a few homebrew ideas. I am no voice actor, but do my utmost to infuse each new NPC and encounter with some unique flavour.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters start at Level 1. Players can either create their character directly in foundry, or import it in using D&D Beyond. I’m flexible, if you’re experienced at character creation and don’t need support, you can create it beforehand and bring it to the table to work out a background for their integration into the party. If you’ve never made a character before and are pretty sure D&D is that game played with dice, I can help support you at the session 0 and between games to create a character your happy and comfortable with.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

As it will be a virtual game, a microphone is definitely required and webcam is preferred. Foundry can be accessed by players in most any browser, no download required. Discord can also be used in a browser, though the A/V function works significantly better if you download the App and run it through there. Foundry has a digital dice roller, so you’re not required to have a set. If you wish to roll physical dice, that’s ok, i do a mixture of digital and physical rolls as DM. I will provide digital resources to guide new players in character creation and grasping the basics of the rules. As noted above, if you’re experienced with character creation, you can create a character ahead of time or create one at session 0. If you’re new to it, no problem, just bring yourself and a desire to learn!

What Luke brings to the table

I’ll create a token using Heroforge of each character based on player description. Players will have approval of character appearance to make sure it matches what they imagine. I have maps and monster tokens set up in Foundry. Also, I will provide access to a google drive Library of D&D books to use in character creation and during gameplay.

How Luke creates a safe table

Players can expect to primarily play via Foundary VTT with Audio/Video run through Discord. I’ve got maps and tokens all set up on Foundry, though there will be some theatre of the mind at times. The session 0 will include character development and creation, a Foundry tutorial, and some discussion of the world and what sorts of things to expect from me and the story. Regarding role playing, there is no pressure, though if your character is trying to accomplish something, its fun if you can try to describe it in part in character. If you’ve played before and are comfortable being in character, I do encourage it. Combat will be aplenty, if thats what the party chooses, Standard D&D 5e rules will be followed, DM’s description when rule disputes arise. I follow the rule of cool, you tell me what you want to do, if its reasonable and the dice allow, I’ll try and make it happen. Dragon of Icespire peak doesn’t have much in the way of puzzles, but I may include a couple home brew puzzles to spice some areas up. No experience needed, all levels welcome! All I ask is that we treat each other with respect in and out of character, and all have a good time!
