About the adventure

A proclamation is issued forth to all Kingdoms across the land: Castle Vauria invites all parties of adventurers to accept the challenge. Deep within the Ancient Forest, high atop Mount Janus, Vauria awaits. Within, whichever brave and fortunate soul is the first to uncover the identity of the castle's True Ruler shall be granted their greatest wish. You are one such adventurer who accepts this challenge. After a long journey, you arrive at the castle gates alongside a number of other individuals seeking the same prize. Instinctively, you know that in order to survive, you must work together with the very same people you would outcompete. How will you outmaneuver your companions to win the ultimate prize? What will you do in the name of a wish? How will you change within a castle where the very fabric of reality changes before your eyes? The multiverse is vast, and somewhere within it is evidence of the True Ruler. Good luck, adventurer, and don't get lost Within the Castle Walls. This campaign for D&D 5e is a character centric, multiverse hopping adventure designed for 4-6 players. The entire story is contained within the eponymous Castle Vauria, but the size and shape of the castle is much grander than one might first expect. The entire narrative is driven by the desires of the adventuring party. What is your wish? How great is your need that only the most powerful magicks can be your salvation? Why are you willing to sacrifice your life to attain the prize? Much of this game's broader worldbuilding is left ambiguous to allow players free reign in designing their characters and backstories. My tables embrace collaborative storytelling. All participants are invited to contribute to a rich narrative. The players that are the most cunning, inquisitive, and decisive, will often reap the greatest rewards within Vauria.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters are created collaboratively with the GM and potentially with another party for players interested in having linked backstories. Characters start at level 3. Stats are determined by supervised rolling (4d6, drop the lowest, reroll 1s, two attempts). You can take average HP or roll. Most ancestries are welcomed, with a few notable exceptions (those with flying speed, primarily). Regardless of ancestry, all characters are given +2 to one stat of their choice, +1 to another, and any feat of their choice (barring Lucky). (Yes, Humans will receive two feats). All characters are given the choice of two uncommon magical items, or one rare item and one common item (some items are subject to veto or rebalancing). Backgrounds are chosen as normal, although these are often flexible, particularly as it comes to skill proficiencies. All characters gain an extra tool proficiency. Alignment is important to note, but is used more often as a guideline for roleplay. All of this will be done together to make sure the process goes smoothly.

Schedule is flexible dependent on group!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Webcam, mics, and steady internet access is required. A basic understanding of your character's abilities and actions is required. Characters will be made before the first session, but likely after session 0. Discord is the preferred application for meeting, but this may change dependent on what is best for the party. Character sheets and dice can be used however is comfortable and convenient for each player, whether they are physical or virtual.

What Evris Oake brings to the table

I will use my mic and webcam. I have my own dice that I will use. Maps will typically be provided (battle maps more often than location maps due to exploration). Any art is encouraged but is dependent on the players to provide.

Safety

How Evris Oake creates a safe table

Full use of Stars and Wishes at the end of the session, allowing a full conversation to debrief and discuss what we have just navigated. Breaks are taken as needed so people can fulfill their various needs. We will always be cognizant and respectful of people's boundaries and requirements for their wellbeing and enjoyment of the game. Session 0 is used to establish norms and expectations for the game, the setting, and codes of conduct while at the table. I've extended the use of cards to include indicators for slowdown, stop, reverse, and pause (often used for players that are struggling to speak up during play). These can be communicated visually, verbally, or through message.
