About the adventure
In this classic starter adventure for 5th edition, you'll take your characters from lvl. 1-5. Along the way you'll fight plenty of battles against a variety of creatures, mingle with the locals in Phandalin, explore the Sword Coast in the Forgotten Realms, unveil secret plots, and hopefully emerge heroes of the region. This adventure is a classic by now for a reason. It has plenty of dungeon crawling, social encounters, interesting NPC's, puzzles, and opportunities for roleplay and character development. If you haven't played by now, this could be a great chance to give it a try. I've run through this module several times, both as a GM and a player, and I know it well. In my experience this mini-campaign lasts about 5-8 4 hour sessions, but could go longer or shorter depending if players like to get lost in role-playing, or prefer to speedrun! This adventure is new player friendly, but also has plenty to sink your teeth into for the more experienced player or dedicated role-player. I'll be running this game at a relatively low rate, as I'm new to the platform and would like to start getting some reviews! I hope you're willing to give things a try and have some fun online.

Meet the Game Master
About me
Hi there. I'm very dedicated to the hobby, game mastering, and game design. I'm developing my own system called 'Duels of Dreams', and would love to run some of those games. In the meantime, I play and run D&D 5e a lot, and would love to run for the right group. I also sometimes design and run my own adventures. As part of designing my own game, I have dissected the math and mechanics of D&D 5e quite thoroughly and know it well. I have 3000+ hours in Roll20 and am a sheet author. I like to minmax the experience on Roll20, using API scripts, Patreon artist maps, modules and macros to their fullest, custom CSS themes, etc. Some examples of API scripts are: teleporting between areas through token movement, group skill and damage checks, turn trackers, door opening macro buttons, music tied to areas, damage animations, etc. I want this to be a fun environment for everyone to hang out and be themselves. Ideally we all make some friends out of this, and tell a collaborative story that rivals your favorite TV show. I'm a live musician and studied some audio production, so I have good mics and can record a decent quality (at least with audio) live stream of every session to look back on later. You can see what I'm working on with my own game here. http://duelsofdreams.com/ And you can watch me GM some games over the years on my YouTube channel. This session linked below is a recent module conversion run-through of an AD&D module using my system 'Duels of Dreams'. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLBz7Vp7CTl826k9g3ihvqJhRUaoiWVos_ My Roll20 profile. https://app.roll20.net/users/224840/daniel-s

Creating your character
We can coordinate characters and party composition ahead of time in discord chat, and use the first half of the first session as a session 0 to finalize characters, player expectations, any optional character backgrounds or fun flavor details, etc. I use standard point buy. You can roll for starting gold, and starting equipment is based on class and race at LVL 1. I prefer to stick with 'Player Handbook' only for races and classes, but any of the other books are okay for feats. I'm also okay if you use Tasha's Guide to Everything for the alternate race rules, and I'm okay with you choosing any race for their mathematical modifiers but playing a different race. For example, you can choose a halfling's luck features, dex modifiers, etc. but play a human instead. Preferably your character is made inside Roll20, as then I can use your character for group rolls and macros to speed up gameplay. I would consider compromising if you have a D&D Beyond character and you're a new player. If you're familiar enough with Roll20 to bring your character in there, that makes things a lot easier. We will be primarily be using circle tokens, so come with some artwork you like as a character portrait. You can make your own token here, or I can help out and make one. https://rolladvantage.com/tokenstamp/ If you prefer a top down token, I have a good collection of those as well.
Thursdays 4-8pm EST.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You'll need Discord for audio, a working mic, and enough experience with Discord to know how to troubleshoot audio issues and deal with any background noise. You'll also need a laptop or desktop computer to run Roll20 in. While it technically can be done on a mobile device, it's too much of a hassle to be worthwhile. Preferably you at least know the rules for character creation ahead of time, but I and other players can help you get started if you need help. As stated above, I prefer you have a character idea and stats as fleshed out as you before session 0, then we can finalize things if need be then. All dice rolls and such will be done online in Roll20!
What Daniel S. brings to the table
Roll20 Pro subscription, API scripts: (door opening, "teleporting" between locations and maps, audio and ambience for each scene, group checks, wound and healing animation, etc.), full module on Roll20.

How Daniel S. creates a safe table
In my opinion, 5th edition is on the simpler spectrum of role-playing games. Due to that, and the availability of Roll20 to speed up combat, means I like to run combats fast and furious. I prefer if players are ready for their turn when it comes around, rolls are made quickly, etc. That being said, pausing to strategize with the team is generally okay and even encouraged if it leads to better teamwork and more coordinated gameplay for everyone. You can see my GM bio for more of what to expect with how I run games! Overall, I want to facilitate a fun cooperative experience for everyone, where players choices are meaningful. I generally avoid railroading the players or saying "no" to a lot of things they attempt (within reason of course). I want you to explore creative solutions to problems, and not be punished for it. I like to take advantage of the fact that this is a tabletop game, and not a video game! Anything could happen!
