About me

Are you ready to embark on an epic adventure? I'm Ivan, a seasoned game master with 15 years of experience running thrilling RPG campaigns. I've spent countless hours mastering the intricacies of various editions of D&D and other games such as Call of Cthulhu or Mothership. I'm always on the lookout for new challenges to hone my skills! Though my journey began with more modern editions of D&D such as 3.5 and 5e, over the last few years I've found my home in classic editions and OSR games. I have a deep love for the classic editions of D&D, including B/X, BECMI, and AD&D, and I enjoy exploring new games that capture the same sense of wonder and adventure. As my game of choice, I have a true passion for running Old-School Essentials in both its Classic and Advanced versions, and I'm always excited to introduce new players to this incredible game. I feel truly at home running these games, and I hope it will show! I use Roll20 as my VTT of choice because of its versatility and ease of use, and I prefer Discord for longer-term campaigns because of its excellent voice and text chat features.

GM style

I have a proven track record of maintaining a healthy balance between rules and rulings, my deep knowledge of game rules and mechanics allows me to make quick and fair rulings that keep the game flowing smoothly. Rules and their intent will be respected, but I encourage players to describe their actions in detail - this often leads to creative solutions and unexpected plot twists. I respect the implied setting and limitations of the games I run and make sure you get into the action quickly. Typically my games are deadly but fair - I will always telegraph danger and allow players to take risks. I'll always root for my players but remain impartial in my decisions. My experience and passion for voice acting and sound design allow me to bring characters to life and create an immersive gaming experience that engages all the senses. The atmosphere and the audiovisual experience are very important to me as well, and I put a lot of effort into preparing these elements for a high-quality and immersive virtual RPG experience. My combat sequences are expertly choreographed to be both faithful to the rules and thrilling to watch. I don't measure every square on a combat grid - I mainly see it as a tool to help us all see where things are happening and adjust accordingly.
