Workshop: Improving Your Improv!

About the adventure

Tired of doing hours of beautiful session prep only to have your players follow a cat for 2 hours? Does the thought of running for a brand new table stress you out? Do you freeze up when a player asks you for a random NPCs name? Ever wondered how theatrical improv and Storytelling games tie together? Then this workshop is for you! *If the cost of the workshop is currently out of your budget, community seats are available, please reach out to me for more info* I'm Dottie, and I've been a professional improv performer for over 15 years, and a Dungeon Master for about the same. I discovered my love of teaching a few of years ago, and have been able to teach different workshops all over the country at conventions, schools, and theaters, and I'm thrilled to get to do that again here at SPG. This workshop will focus on improv basics applied directly to concepts specifically catered towards GMs of TTRPGs. We will be diving into the ways that a lot of familiar gaming concepts and improv concepts tie together naturally, as well as discussing some of the meta-aspects of improv, and how to retain players. The workshop will be interactive, and will be capped at 20 participants. Captions are available in-platform through Google Meet, and if you need any other type of accommodation, please reach out beforehand so that we can make it happen.

How to prepare

You will be sent a link to a google form shortly after enrolling, just fill it out, and you'll be emailed the link for the Google Meet.

What I provide

Everyone will receive a handout from the workshop with a recap and additional resources.

Gameplay details

This workshop will not feature any themes I could foresee being triggering, however, we will still be using X cards just in case. Any game or workshop that I run is aggressively moderated and any displays of racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, or ableism will be met with immediate removal from the space.

How will character creation work

We'll be learning how to create memorable characters on the fly!

Players can expect

• Find a game to join solo or search for a professional game master for you and your friends/coworkers/family.
• Book your session and wait for the Game Master to approve you.
• If you don't have a blast with your first game, your next game is on us.
