About the adventure

The game of Vaesen is set in the mythic, gothic Scandinavia of the 1800's. Strange, dark creatures - the Vaesen - surround us, but only a gifted few - you among them! - can see them. It is thus your task to protect your fellow humans from the machinations of these enigmatic creatures. The game uses a deep, rich, gothic setting, and features investigations into the occult and supernatural as your characters race against time to solve the mystery before the Vaesen wreak havoc of the unsuspecting humans who have attracted their wrath. But like all things in nature, the Vaesen themselves are often only tools, pawns of unscrupulous humans. You must unravel the twisted mysteries at the heart of this game! This particular adventure, which I wrote, concerns a young woman whose family died in a tragedy that left her blind. Years later, she hires the group of players to investigate what she believes was more than just a simple accident, but was perhaps a supernatural occurrence, specifically a curse that targeted their family.

Additional Details

How to prepare

Players need to have a decent mic and internet connection. A camera is strongly encouraged, but not necessary. Players should expect to do some light reading of rules ahead of time, but I will provide a cheat sheet for the rules, and guide players - not know the system is not an issue. The Vaesen system is fairly rules-light. Players can use their own dice or the VTT dice. Their computers should be able to run both Zoom and the Owlbear Rodeo VTT, along with the Google Spreadsheet for the characters (though those can be printed out if needed).

What I provide

I will provide an opportunity for players to make Hero Forge versions of their characters, and will provide the rule set and all images and maps - some I make through Inkarnate, others I get through various Patreons I support. I will also have music for those who enjoy a soundtrack while they play.

Gameplay details

The game features mainly investigation into the occult and supernatural mysteries, but will feature some combat against both human and supernatural entities. Some characters and NPCs may use supernatural powers and/or magic. Some of the Vaesen can be monstrous or horrific. I suggest looking up the art of Vaesen for a taste of the atmosphere and tone.

How will character creation work

Once you join, you will receive an invite to my Discord channel. We will work on characters through this channel, and I will provide all the information you need to make characters. Characters will be recorded on a Google Spreadsheet I've created for this occasion. If you prefer, you can simply choose a pre-generated character. We will then work on rounding out and fleshing out the characters and their connection to each other during Session 0.

Players can expect

• Find a game to join solo or search for a professional game master for you and your friends/coworkers/family.
• Book your session and wait for the Game Master to approve you.
• If you don't have a blast with your first game, your next game is on us.
