About the adventure

An original take on the world of Sword Art Online. No, Kirito, no Asuna, No Kayaba. You find yourself as one of the lucky 10,000 players who got a day one copy of the new and first-ever full-dive virtual reality massively multiplayer online game called Sword Art Online. On launch day you put on the Nervegear, the full-dive headset that allows for your mind to dive into the virtual world and begin the login process by using the vocal activation keyword of Link Start. Your mind goes black for a moment before a white light consumes your vision and colorful beams of light fly by you till you log in and you are now standing on a floating castle in the sky called Aincrad. You begin to get used to this new virtual world, doing the tutorial, starting to learn the new mechanics, and meeting some new people in the process. Everything seems to be going well until some strange things begin to happen in the game. Is this a launch day event or something much darker? This is going to be using an adjusted version of a fan adaption of DnD 5e. I will send it to the players when we do character creation.

How to prepare

Microphones are a must, webcameras are highly recommended. Rules will be the standard DnD 5e ruleset, if any homebrew or other rule ideas come up during a session we will play it out as established then circle back to the rule and discuss the change going forward. If it comes up before a session, we will discuss the change and decide on how it will be implemented from that moment forward. The only mandatory software is Discord. I will poll the party before session zero and see what platform will be utilized for this campaign. Foundry VTT and Table Top Simulator are platforms I've used in the past. I also have 5 player seats to Menyr and am excited to use that once it's stable and released.

What I provide

I will bring a fun and in-depth creative world for my players to inhabit. I will try my best to allow for exploration at any moment in any area. I do my best to try and plan out as much as possible ahead of time to allow for free roaming. Plus I am good at coming up with stuff on the fly when need be. There will always be visual elements, from maps, battle maps, and reference images. I will try to mix in appropriate music elements to match the mood and situations, this isn't always easily done but will be an element of this campaign.

Gameplay details

I love to be creative and make worlds and characters that inhabit them. So I love when players get into RP! Watching players take their character, dive in and really make them a living element in my world! TTRPGs is a collaborative effort between GM and Players to tell an amazing story! I am not great with character voices, that is something that I am working on but not confident at all in. I like to have visual elements in my campaigns. That means maps, battle maps, interactive map elements while playing (Puzzles), images, videos (look at the youtube link for a sample of what I did for my SAO camping.), I understand that there are rules to the game with every system, however, I am willing to break rules and allow players to do some creative, out-of-the-box things, especially for the sake of fun, entertainment, story, and cool factor, of course where it seems fit and not just willy-nilly.

How will character creation work

As of now, I think players will be starting at Level 1. In terms of character creation, that is something that we can meet on Discord to talk about prior to Session 0 to kind of spitball some ideas back and forth. You would be able to message me any questions or ideas you have and I would get back to you ASAP. Nothing would need to be finalized until session 0, that's when we'll bring it all together as a party and establish everything from characters to the world at the start of session one.
