About the adventure

Before the great glaciers covered the northern world for the last time, there was an age of legends now forgotten in the modern world. Cities of barbaric splendor and brooding ruins from prehuman times were scattered across the great isles of the north. This was the land of Thule, savage and spectacular, a world of wonders and terrors. And it lives now only in the darkest depths of prehistory and half-remembered glimmers of myth. Thule is an alternate Earth, a world in which legendary places and creatures once existed and magic, dark and mysterious, held power over young and superstitious humankind. Its civilizations arose in a warm and lush northern world, but were erased from history by the ten-thousand year reign of the vast ice sheets. This is the age of Atlantis and Lemuria, of serpentmen and savage beasts, of star-demons and sorcery. When an ancient eldritch flying realm crashes to earth, a long-kept secret is revealed: it was the control point for magical wards that kept a dozen ancient evils in check. The icons have offered you rival opportunities for glory, plunder, and/or heroic sacrifice in Vantage. Will you rescue its survivors? Restore its magical wards? Or loot everything that isn't nailed down while trying to stay one step ahead of the apocalypse? This is an asynchronous Play-by-Post Campaign. Players will utilize Discord channels for both in-character and out-of-character responses and will use Roll20 for tracking meta-game elements such as maintaining the character sheet and rolling dice and such.

How to prepare

Session Zero is for character creation and reviewing campaign themes and can be separate Voice meetings with each Player in Discord as needed. Players will be expected to respond in a timely but reasonable manner. Combat and social encounters will obviously be micromanaged by the GM to some extent if a player cannot respond in a timely manner with sufficient notice. Players will be charged weekly but no charge will accrue if a Player requires an extended absence and is able to provide fair reasonable notice (based on the circumstances of course --- emergencies happen). Roll20 will not be used for tactical movement or such (although will be used for some visual aids but the majority of those will be through Discord). Think of Discord as being your "in-character" narrative responses and Roll20 as being your character sheet and dice rolls. In Roll20, you roll the dice for your attack ("roll 1d20+mods") but in Discord you "swing your blade at the villain's head after having feinted his attack".
