How to prepare

Bring an open mind and imagination along with your love for the Forgotten Realms. Have a good microphone and headphones. We will be using Discord for chat/voice. Optional: Register at Fantasy Grounds and Syrinscape so you can download the software. You will need to download the Syrinscape Online Player, not the stand alone player. Syrinscape will be used for music and soundeffects. Fantasy Grounds will be optional but recommended. There are two paths to character creation: You may go to D&D Beyond and create a character. The DM will need to review it. In this case the DM will be driving your character in Fantasy Grounds. You will be able to concentrate on role play and voice acting (if that’s your thing) rather than worrying about which button to press. You will see the player view via screen share in Discord. OR You will need to install Fantasy Grounds and have it available for play. Then follow our character creation instructions. You will also need to install the Syrinscape Online Player in either case if you want to hear music and soundeffects. A campaign handout will be provided to familiarize you with lore and any house rules along with additional instructions.

What I provide

A link to a living document campaign handout will be sent to those that sign up. This will be the campaign journal. I will be bringing a Fantasy Grounds Ultimate license (I have Unity and Classic) so you will not need to pay for Fantasy Grounds. I will be bringing all 5e campaign books in FG format and I will have all of my 1e – 4e materials on standby for lore and additional mechanics. We will also have a variety of adventures and campaign guides from DMs Guild that can be integrated into the campaign. I believe in supporting 3rd party content creators and spend heavily on materials to enhance the game.

What else should you know

We have a friendly play environment. No discrimination against fellow players will be permitted. Characters may of course have competing agendas in the game. You agree to the terms in our House Rules by attending the table, which may change from time to time without notice. If you disagree with the terms at any time you may cancel your reservation. If you are unable to attend the session for any reason YOU must cancel your reservation using your player dashboard.

Gameplay Details

We focus on the pillars of Roleplay and Exploration and spend most of our time authoring for those pillars. Combat does not make up a large segment of the game. Most of the regular players will sneak around a fight or talk their way out of a fight. Using violence to solve problems is a last resort, not a first choice. This is not a traditional dungeon or hex crawl, or tactical combat oriented table. Battle maps may be present but will be there to take it one step beyond Theater Of The Mind. Battle maps will not be a primary visual aid since the Combat pillar is a very small portion of the game. LoS and Fog of War are usually turned off at player request. Game play highly involves mystery and crime solving like Scooby Doo, Buffy The Vamprie Slayer/Angel, or Law and Order more than an action hack and slash show. Players may seek confrontation with the antagonist or inform the authorities and move on to the next crime to solve. We will have one week of live session by voice. You may tell the DM what you want to be doing during downtime. This can be solo adventures, directing your henchmen, crafting items, intrigue and more. This is optional and players who prefer live interaction are not required to participate. The DM will arbitrate your activities and message you with the results and adjust your XP and gold accordingly. If you request a live voice solo session for downtime please contact the DM for rates. The DM reserves the right to record the session to provide a text based recap and campaign journal based off the recording. The session will not be podcast unless the players want to go public. We are not setup to give out recordings for players to keep at this time. In most cases content will be PG-13 rated, but content up to MPAA R-Rated, TV-MA, or ESRB “M for Mature” Fantasy/SciFi/Horror are allowed at the table by players, DM, and adventure writers without prior notice. If it appeared in Conan, Beastmaster, or The Barbarian Brothers it will likely be in the game at some point. Out of respect for your privacy the DM does not require your real name and prefers to keep all conversation in the game to in game world topics. Please refrain from real world politics, sports team discussions, etc.

How Will Character Creation Work

Before Day of Game: If you have signed up before the day of the game you will receive a self guided how to. If you need assistance you may request a 1:1 voice/video call with the DM for assistance. The self guided process may either be making your character on D&D Beyond and sending to the DM or you may make it in Fantasy Grounds. Day of Game: If less than 24 hours remain before game time you may either 1) use one of our pregen characters 2) import a character from D&D Beyond. 3) import a Fantasy Grounds character from another campaign We are unable to accommodate guided character creation with same day reservations. If you are unfamiliar with Fantasy Grounds and unable to navigate the how to guide you must choose a pregen character or import one from D&D Beyond. There is not a Roll20 to Fantasy Grounds converter at this time.
