About the adventure

Dust World is a game of superpowered nomads, wandering the fringes of a Wild West society. Beneath their feet lies the scorched ruins of a hypertech past, filled with the haunted dust created by an ancient and all-consuming bioweapon. In Dust World, you play the Drifters, a posse of adventurers, heroes, scavengers and ne’er do wells, wandering the world in search of fame, fortune and excitement. This game focuses on over-the-top adventures in the same vein as classic anime like Trigun, Fist of the North Star or Naruto. You’ll travel to strange and unusual places, vanquish hordes of heinous foes, and discover a world of ancient secrets and forgotten technology.

How to prepare

The player should read the basic moves and the playbook thoroughly, and the player section of the handbook if they have never played a PbtA game. The Keeper(DM) will also guide and help the players with the simple mechanics during play.

What I provide

I will bring the vibe, and energy of excitement, thrill and comedy. I will have everything set up on roll20 for ease of use and give access to the handbook and playbooks.

Gameplay details

Dust World PbtA RPG is built on the apocalypse engine from Vincent Baker and Meguey Baker's game Apocalypse World. It's a simple but robust narrative based game using two 6 sided dice to resolve random elements. The players pick 1 of 8 available playbooks and can customize them even more with the options from the book with the Keepers(DM) help. Character creation can take as little as 30 mins. The party will then choose a posse type and that will help them pick a style the game will take and where the story will be focused. Some example posse types are: Explorer Society: Your Drifters are a party of bushwhackers, trail-setters and cartographers, venturing out into the unknown for the thrill of adventure. Lawbringers: The Drifters are a band of sheriffs, judges or other people fighting to uphold a code of laws, rooting out criminals or bringing order to chaotic lands. Raiders: The Drifters are a loose-knit band of travelling anarchists, smashing the system and fighting anything and everything. Then they all set out to make an awesome story together.

How will character creation work

Character creation is as simple as picking a playbook and checking a few boxes. The player should choose the playbook and more or less know what they want to play as. Fill out everything but the standings section. They will have access to the Keeper(DM) for questions and help. This will allow the intro stage of the first session to move quickly and smoothly.
