Hi, I'm Justin Handlin. I've been into Dungeons & Dragons, Fate, 13th Age, and many other tabletop RPGs for over 20 years. I've always loved RPGs for the social and storytelling experience. It didn't take long before I started running games and hosting game nights. My wide range of games has allowed me to take some of the best advice and GM techniques from each one and compile them into a fun and engaging tabletop experience for my players. As much as I loved playing, I never could get enough. That's why it was inevitable that I would create a Dungeons & Dragons discussion talk show. I mean, who wouldn't want to sit around and talk D&D for a few hours on a regular basis right!? Well, since then my show Crit Academy (www.critacademy.com) has grown significantly, and I've even delved into publishing my own 3rd party content. Many of which are best-sellers. All this comes has allowed me to develop a wide range of skillsets to optimize the playing experience at my tables, and I couldn't be happier. I hope you will join me as we prepare to embark on a fantastic journey to realms unknown!
I am of the mind that the characters and the stories are upfront and the focus of the game. As GM it is my responsibility to ensure everyone, even myself, has fun at every session. Because of this, I like to make sure I understand what my players want out of the game. When it comes to running adventures and stories, I truly believe the players should be as invested as possible. Because of this, I allow them access to plenty of storytelling and worldbuilding power. I believe that this not only engages all players but helps their actions stay fresh in their memory. While I prefer theatre of the mind for the more mundane combat and exploration encounters. I do enjoy tossing my players into a complex tactical situation, often for large complex battles. I will deliver an adventure that is sure to be a blast. I really like to get into the game with silly voices for important characters, as well as ensure the character's actions have consequences. Sometimes, this means it doesn't go well for the player characters who choose to be foolish in spite of the many warnings. I'm also not one to fudge dice. We are all here to have fun, and I will do a damn good job at it.
