Greetings from CD, The Curious Doctor! I will never forget the first time I heard of and played D&D in 1981, when I was 12. I was asked to pretend to be an orc (whatever that was)! After that I got sidetracked. I became a doctor, got married and raised a family. But eventually I was drawn back to the game table. I had always dreamed of running my own games but had a hard time getting together dedicated players. I played earlier versions of D&D but found that I really synced with the 5th edition. I connected with friends and players around the world on VTTs (Fantasy Grounds and Roll20) and have been playing regularly for the last 5 years, continually working on honing my DM skills. Along the way, I have learned a few other TTRPGs (Star Wars RPG, Call of Cthulhu, Kids on Bikes, Monster of the Week) and am always interested in learning more. The Curious Doctor is in!

GM Style

When I became more serious about gaming, I thought that I had to create a visual arena of miniatures or cool VTT effects to capture the imaginations of players. Recently though I have come to appreciate theater of the mind as just as effective a way of engaging players with fewer distractions. In any case, there is a time and place for each in fostering immersive gameplay. First and foremost, I want to roleplay with my players. I help players forge the characters they want to play in a free session zero, and together we will decide the stories we want tell together. I bring to the table memorable NPCs with unique voices. I present ample opportunities for memorable fights, social interactions, and challenging mysteries. I provide background music and visual aids and maps to add to the imaginative experience. I have an expansive knowledge of the rules, but I heartily abide to the “rule of cool.” My players will have free access to all official sourcebooks for character creation and reference through D&D Beyond. Mostly I want players that feel invested in what we are creating together. I host an inclusive game for all types of humans, and do not tolerate bigotry or aggressive behavior. I discuss situations beforehand that may be triggering to players and allow players to pause the game if needed.
