About Kai
Hello! My name is Kai and I LOVE ttrpgs and writing. Lately I have been focusing on the new Cosmere RPG system but have a interest in many more systems. Ive been playing D&D since my grandpa taught me when i was 8, so that's 20 years now! Ive run many shorter campaigns and one-shots. I have also ran a couple longer ones throughout the years. My longest lasted for 3 years and was a hex-crawl through a homebrew new continent in 5e. I am well versed in running combat heavy crunchy games as well as RP heavy loosey goosey games and thoroughly enjoy both play styles or a mix of the two. Overall, I just have a thorough love of ttrpgs and the bonds you can form and the stories you can tell through them, no matter the playstyle. As for myself, Im a avid reader of fiction books and spend most of my time playing ttrpgs, working, writing my own projects, or reading books. Ask me about my favorite authors and novels and Ill tell you all about them!

I got started GMing...
when my grandpa passed and I had no body to GM for me but still had the passion for TTRPG. I started running AD&D for my childhood friends and family. Then I ran games off and on of 3.5 and 5e for various online and offline groups. Wanted to play but got forever GMd and fell in love with it anyway.
My favorite books are
The cosmere books by Brandon Sanderson, Rendezvous with Rama and 2001 by Arthur C Clarke, Deathgate cycle and dragon lance by Margarete Weiss and Tracy Hickman, That time I got reincarnated as a slime by Fuse. Thrawn legends trilogy by Timothy Zhan. The gray death legion books by William H Keith Jr.
My favorite system of all Time is
The brand spanking new Cosmere RPG, as a huge fan of the books to get a well made system in my favorite fictional setting was huge. I love this system and its mechanics for social encounters, its endeavors and its pseudo classless talent system.
How Kai runs games
I love roleplay and tend to lean into it heavily. Though I do fancy myself a combat encounter wizard. I love making challenging and engaging encounters, especially ones where the goal isn't just to defeat the opponents but to achieve some objective. I like to improv as well as write so I am comfortable with players that hit me with out of left field unexpected moves. Dungeon crawling is a blast but so is talking to the bartender and his patrons for 2 hours. I think of myself as a jack of all trades GM with a leaning towards the roleplay.

I deal with rules issues by...
Hearing the issue out and adjusting my ruling if I have made a mistake. If a player just does not want to follow a rule and wants to homebrew or rule of cool something, that depends on the table and the preset expectations. I am not all knowing and may forget rules so don't mind being rule checked.
My games focus on...
What the players want from the game, my style is to cater to the players and what makes them have fun. If my players are having fun I am having fun. That being said I find myself favoring heavy RP interspersed with tactical combats by default.
When it comes to voices
Follow the expectations of the table. I will never require voices as a default for my tables but if every player says "we want serious character voices and to stay in them" and we all agree to that then I shall hold that standard. Likewise if we want none then dont do one. Be kind and have fun.
Kai's ideal table
My style is defined by my table, I play with the aim of everyone having the most fun possible. Since I will have fun no matter the game type as long as my players are having fun, I focus on whatever the consensus is. If we want tons of silly RP followed by intense crunchy combat, that's what we will have. If we want a tactical 3 hour long combat, I can provide! If we want to not roll a single dice for 3 hours and just talk, well I can do that one too (though ive never actually had a game with no dice rolls). My default style favors RP with a nice mix of semi-tactical combat.

I love it when a player
Surprises me with a unexpected and crazy creative solution. I love to see the things people come up with to solve problems, especially when I did not think of it as a possible solution myself. It is always fun for me to improv after unexpected occurrences.
I think it's a red flag when players...
Complain about safety tools or don't respect them. Safety tools are a important part of making sure everyone can have fun and feel safe, if you want to ignore them or not use them this is not the table for you.
I think metagaming...
Should be kept to a minimum. It can ruin fun for a lot of people and can ruin adventures. That being said, everyone meta-games a little subconsciously, no matter how hard you try to limit yourself to your characters knowledge, you still have all your knowledge. Just try your best and that's fine.
