I got started GMing...
I got started in Dungeons and Dragons at nine, having discovered the books in my local library and a group that played there as well. After only a few games as a player, I had a burning desire to tell stories for the players and the table! After 40 years, I still love the game!
My 3 systems I'd bring to a desert island would be
On my first deployment in the military, I carried in my bags the 1st edition Micro D&D Monster Manual, DMG, and Players Handbook with a credit card Magnifying glass bookmark. West End D6 Star Wars is easy to teach and run, and I love Star Wars. Cypher System a simple, elegant RPG for any Genre.
When I'm not running games I'm...
RPG-wise, I like to take time to write and work on my personal homebrew RPG world a few hours a week. Non-RPG wise I enjoy the challenges of survival games and play several with my friends. Valhime, Enshrouded, Dune Awakening, Runescape Dragonwilds, and more! I also enjoy making candles!
How Runkle Plays Games runs games
TLDR: 🧾 Descriptive and Immersive Story Telling 👄 Bad Character Voices ⚔ Fast Flowing Combat 🗺 Visual Aids and Extra Maps 💥 Animated Imagery 🫂 Inclusive My GM style: My style is all about weaving intricate stories and fostering deep roleplay. I believe that every player's choice should have meaningful consequences, turning each session into a dynamic narrative where the world reacts to your actions. I'm known for my character voices, which bring NPCs to life and add an extra layer of immersion to the game. I'm constantly honing my craft to deliver the best possible experience. While I respect the rules, I'm not a stickler for them. My priority is to keep the game moving and the story unfolding, ensuring that the fun never stops for a rules lookup. Let's focus on creating epic moments and lasting memories together!" This maintains the essence but adds personality and clarity, aligning with player expectations for immersive experiences.
Runkle Plays Games's ideal table
My table is a casual, friendly place. Each of us are gathered to have fun and enjoy each other's time while creating stories and throwing dice! My players and I strive to embrace the action as well as the story and roleplay, all while not taking ourselves too seriously and being mindful to be respectful of every player's moments and time.

I love it when a player
Has an outside-the-box idea. Moments like this promote back-and-forth storytelling and narration as we think through how the idea might be accomplished. I won't always say yes and.. but I will hear the player out and consider the rule of cool vs does it break the game!
My table is not the place for...
Pushy rules lawyering. As a DM, I want to keep the game flow moving, and I am not always going to make the right call on a rule. I am more than happy to discuss it after a game session or briefly address it as we play, as long as it does not impact play and the enjoyment of everyone in the group.
