About DM Steve
For me, life is about playing games. Full stop. Take away everything else, the need to eat, sleep, and breathe, and you're left with fields of time with a creative mind ready to actively imagine something to fill all of that open space up with; that's where I come in. Together, we can create an experience that is fun, meaningful, and engaging, with moments of thrilling excitement and wonderful opportunities to discover a world previously unknown.

When I'm not running games I'm...
Hanging out with my partner and our kids. Or I'm reading, or I'm working on a future game or playing video games, or out for a walk, or hanging out at the local game shop, or crafting something out of wood or foam. These are my standards.
How DM Steve runs games
As a GM, my goals are to challenge you as a player and to challenge myself as a GM. I focus on developing further my roleplaying, combat design, story set-up, and narrative structure. I want for you to have a damn good experience and I want to feel damn good about the experience I gave you, so: 👍I'm always learning. 👍I have many tools in my toolbox I'm willing to use. 👍and can guarantee you that the comfort and security of our table is my top priority. My games have ✅ Have internal consistency ✅ Play with maps and music to add texture and layers to our story. ✅ Experiment with all sorts of gameplay types in order to grow and stretch the medium.

I deal with rules issues by...
Clarifying intent, verifying precedence, and coming to conclusion. Debate and negotiation absolutely fine, so long as it isn't interrupting the table for an extended period of time. I always reserve the right to final judgement and verdict, and to revisit the issue when timing is more apt.
My games focus on...
Enjoyment! At the end of the day, we're all here to have fun, so don't hesitate to let me know if there's something we can be doing to be making more of the experience.
Rules are...
There to help facilitate a great gaming experience and not as an obstacle to a great gaming experience. Knowing when to apply the rules, how to apply them, when to abridge those rules, and when to build new rules are a part of being a strong GM.
DM Steve's ideal table
My players are engaged, enthusiastic, and are ready to jump into the fun! They all come as they are, and are respectful and generous with their teammates. My players want to try outside the box thinking to achieve their in-game goals, and they strive to communicate those goals as clearly as they can articulate.

I love it when a player
Communicative about their goals, desires, and challenges! My door is always open. Otherwise, love what you're doing! I want you to have a good time, and to help make it a good time for the other players, so whatever we can do to support that, lets do it!
I think metagaming...
is not that big issue of an issue. Tables are pretty self-enforcing, so I just say follow the etiquette. If it feels pretty meta, it probably is; I handle these things as it comes so hopefully it doesn't escalate into big sources of friction.
My perfect party mix is
a Respectful, generous, joyous, courteous group of people who grow their knowledge base so they can have greater depth in their TTRPG experiences.
