I got started GMing...
...in 2019. My wife had just finished running the D&D starter kit adventure and our friends were eager for more. I volunteered to run a Strixhaven campaign, and I loved it! As someone with a background in theatre, I especially enjoyed bringing all the side characters to life.
When I'm not running games I'm...
...out walking Bast (my cat), biking across town with my wife, gardening, tinkering with Arduinos, coding my next video game, or learning how to play the ukulele.
How Nick "The Gamesmith" runs games
I believe that having fun and telling a great story are what matter most, so I do my best to keep a quick pace, be fair and consistent with the rules, and do what I can to unlock each player's imagination. My games tend to have an equal mix of roleplay, combat, exploration, and mystery-solving.
Nick "The Gamesmith"'s ideal table
So far, I've mostly worked with new players -- and I love it! I focus a lot on the story-creation part of gameplay, so I especially love it when everyone feels comfortable enough to let their imaginations run wild.
