About Myrmiderp

Being a GM combines so many things I love: writing, art, music, voice acting, game design, strategy... I started off with a few friends in my dining room and a started adventure for 4th edition D&D, and have been growing as a GM ever since, which is something I really care about: improving. I'm constantly studying game mastering techniques, experimenting with new systems, and reading about different kinds of worlds and settings to give myself a wealth of inspiration to draw from. I want your adventure to be unforgettable, and I want it to be ours--something everyone involved contributed a part of themselves to. If you have a passion, I have a world for you to immerse yourself in. Hop in and let's get going already, we've got a world to save. Or destroy. Your choice. I love learning new systems and games. If you find a system you think I'd be interested in, I will probably be happy to run it for you.

I became a GM because

I wanted to be the one in control of the game. I've since learned better. I stayed a GM because it's a million different creative outlets in one. But really? It's because of how delightful it is when players surprise you, and how the surprise is even better when you lean into it. It's irreplaceable.

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

I passed this off to some of my players, and here are their unfiltered responses: "Creative, immersive, flexible" "The absolute GOAT" "CRUNCHY combat, JUICY descriptions, SUPPLE storytelling" "Accommodating, collaborative, witty" "Describes. Buttholes. Evocatively."

When I'm not running games I'm...

Playing them, reading the rules to a new system, or taking a hike through the forest.

How Myrmiderp runs games

As a DM, I really like indulging in the emergent storytelling that makes each adventure totally unique. I try to give your characters interesting choices, because I'm just as invested in them as you are. When the table gets to peek behind the curtain at how they're thinking and feeling, it makes the world we've created feel real. My NPCs are voice-acted because I want to be in their head when I make decisions for them. When you play a game with me, I'm going to be diligently searching for those perfect matching puzzle pieces that slot into your story; the irreplaceable answer that makes everyone at the table gasp or laugh or tear up. I want to create a story that not only stays with you, but stays with me, into my future games. I like to experiment with unusual encounters, and will often introduce unexpected ways of engaging with our shared game world. But that said, I'm a huge fan of tactics games, and am always looking for new ways to make combat more rewarding and let clever ideas shine.

I deal with rules issues by...

During session, I'll make a judgment call that everyone can accept, with the understanding it's temporary and for the sake of time. After the session, I'll look deeper into the rule so I'm ready with a better answer next time.

My favorite trope is...

Amnesia. Call it overdone, but there's no faster way to have the player and character be on the exact same page.

When it comes to voices

I will do as many as you'll let me.

Myrmiderp's ideal table

I believe that gravity and levity are the yin and yang of roleplay; they are both inevitable, and they complement each other. We're here to be invested, but we're also here to laugh. You'll fit in well if you want a bit of both; silly things are going to happen, and it's important to ride that ebb and flow rather than push against the forces of nature. I also very much value detail and immersion. Strong roleplayers are very welcome. For less experienced roleplayers, I like to ask inspiring questions because I'm invested in your character and want to know more.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

The absurd. I revel in absurdity because it is an invitation to connect the dots, to make the absurd consistent.

I love it when a player

Surprises me. Come up with a plan I wouldn't have considered in a million years.

I think min/maxing...

Is a fun optimize-y part of the game... if it's not ruining the game for others. This will vary by group, so just remember: we're here to play the game together.
