About me

Hey there new pals and excellent adventurers! My name is Toby, and I've been a DM since I was a teen, starting with D&D 3.5. I love to run both premade and homebrew modules, and I'm open to literally any ideas people have for settings.

GM Style

Rule of cool is a big driving force, but we've got to keep things grounded in the setting. Playing a wacky one-shot? Let's get weird. A long running dramatic campaign? Keep it grounded, hero.

Toby is a great storyteller whose innate grasp of human nature makes every character interaction feel very real. His roleplay is top notch with seamless improvisation no matter what the player comes up with. He is also really skilfull at weaving the storyline around the characters' own personalities and stories. This was a campaign based on a published module but - along with the RP - Toby's original additions to the plotlines are what really made it memorable. Oh and the combat was often pretty intense, too! Would definitely recommend.

He's fantastic, he follows the rules but allows flexibility to reward player creativity. We had a character with a rotting/mushroom spore type chest wound that needed to be removed. I played a gnome wizard and I wanted to essentially perform surgery to reach in and cauterize the wound using Burning Hands concentraced to my hand instread of out in a spraying effect, and he had me roll medicine checks for the surgery bit and then arcana to see if my character knew enough to bend the spell usage to work it the way we needed. It worked fantastically for the story and plot, and was really rewarding as a player to get to try out the idea I'd had. There were other moments like that too, you still have to roll and see if you're successful, but even just getting to try the idea is a reward itself.

Toby built an amazing world for me and my younger brother to play in, and really helped us feel the vibes by playing music and sounds that fit the scenes and moods.

It was a really fun way to get my character (and myself) aquatinted with this new world. I really enjoyed the soundscapes and music that he used to create the atmosphere for different settings, it really helped with immersion. Overall a great time!

I've known Toby for about a year and I love their style of GM, there's room for serious stories but also for fun. My experience with them has encouraged me to get back into D&D after years of not playing. My favorite story so far have been a Prophecy in a Feywild world that involved the Last Eladrin, a Circle of Spores Druid, and my character, a human rogue who defaults to fire for every scary monster they come across. My character's brushed death over and over, really encapsulating the thrill of D&D where you have real risk and real reward to taking risks. It's been a great example of how good D&D can be with the right group. I would recommend them to anyone.

Toby is an incredible storyteller with some of the coolest homebrew settings ever! They weave their players backstories into the setting incredibly smoothly and know how to cater to all kinds of players. I really admire their kind but firm leadership, if any kind of conflict arises with players I can trust them to resolve it with ease. They also have a huge portion of the rules memorized! Definitely the best DM I’ve ever played with, you will not be disappointed!
