About Jayke
I'm Jayke (they/them), fan of books, music, video games, and, big shocker, tabletop games! Located near Atlanta. Professionally I am a narrative designer, on-and-off experimental poet, and TTRPG writer who creates my own homebrew and working on my own TTRPG system. I'm a self-taught Game Master of 7 years and have run everything from one-shots to year-long running campaigns. I am also a big proponent of player-fantasy first and world-fantasy second. I spend countless hours toiling with players on how they want their character to play and work to create a story they want first and foremost.

I got started GMing...
...in 2017, when I was in High School. My first game was with 5 people who never played, and they ending that campaign with a pet Manticore, Carrion Crawler, and tried (and succeeded) in seducing an Ice Dragon. That shit was comedy gold.
My favorite shows/movies are
...Wall-E and Arrival for Movies (shoutout to Puss n Boots the Last Wish). For shows I'm a big fan of Utopia (the original Channel 4 version) as well as a guilty pleasure for Burn Notice and Twin Peaks.
The three words my players would use to describe me are...
... Adaptable, Supportive, and Beginner-Friendly (what do you mean I just looked at my page's reviews?)
How Jayke runs games
I am a big storyteller and so to me the most important thing is the Narrative and how it interacts with the players. I'm big into roleplaying and exploring massive worlds. Although I do have a habit of making really tactical boss fights and clever gameplay encounters, for better or worse.

My games focus on...
...narrative and player agency. Outside of the Villain Monologues, I think it's important for players to have the choice to affect the narrative however they wish, whenever they wish. Most my narrative adapts to player's choice, because I find joy in them having fun.
Rules are...
...not the centerpiece. They are the medium which gameplay is had, but the game is meant to be fun first and foremost, even if they means bending the foundation we play upon.
When it comes to voices
...I try my best, but I'm no voice actor. Sure I can get a good Elf here, or a strong Orc there, and my wacky voices go hard, but I struggle with variety, not that I don't try to get better each time.
Jayke's ideal table
I run a loose and friendly table, everyone is there to have a good time and players who are open to a little bit of goofiness and focus on having fun with other players are the best types to have at my tables. We can get serious moments in campaigns of course, and heartfelt moments too, but all-in-all, my table is focused on creating an inclusive, friendly environment for everyone.

Baldur's Gate 3
I think metagaming...
...is fine when it's appropriate. I use a lot of tools to help display Health Estimates to players, and general discussing of skills is fine, but I think it's important to remember what your character would logically know, not what you as a player do.
I think min/maxing...
...can be fun, but will be downplayed in games I run. I create fun and enjoyable encounters made so beginner's can have a fun time playing, I rarely, if ever, create super-tough fights. Don't let that stop you, but my tables do not inherently support that style of play.
