About Gray

Hey there! My name's Gray, and I have been GMing TTRPG tables for the better part of the last decade. I absolutely love telling stories, and my favorite way to facilitate that is by running games for players in my custom worlds. I tend to prefer semi-dense world-building and heavy roleplay, but am more than comfortable shifting that style for whatever my players are interested in exploring! I host games and campaigns that take place in Critical Role's Exandria and League of Legends' Runeterra, as well as my own fantasy setting called Psedhara, which is similar to the previous two in technology and scope.

People are always surprised when I tell them

I have a twin, and my older brothers are also twins.

When I'm not running games I'm...

going to the movies! I love talking about stories of all types, not just of the fantays TTRPG variety!

How Gray runs games

I love pretty much all pillars of play! I am a big roleplay person, and try to use as many unique voices as I can. As someone who's greatest passion is creating and sharing lore, I love getting to seed tidbits and info to players slowly as a campaign goes along. That being said, I also do love combat, and while I am not a huge fan of the "many encounters per long rest" model that the DMG presents, I am never going to shy away from a good combat.

I deal with rules issues by...

judging what is fair in the moment, and what tells a good story. Sometimes, I may rule on the same issue differently in two separate situations, because the story demands the stakes be set a certain way. But no matter what, I am as open as possible with my players about what I'm doing!

My favorite trope is...

when minor characters that have appeared throughout a story all return in the climax to help in the final fight. If you're in a long campaign with me, expect to see beloved characters and plot elements return!

When it comes to voices

I try to make every character sound different! I love doing voices, and I find that when the DM engages with that, it makes players more excited to invest in their own characters!

Gray's ideal table

My table puts storytelling and player experience first, above even the rules of the game. At the end of the day, playing tabletop games are escapism, and I like to make sure that my players feel they are being taken care of, and that they get to have some fun at the end of their long days. So, the primary two ways I do that are 1) by telling impactful stories that restore our hope in the world, and 2) allowing players to make their characters into exactly the heroes they want to be. If that involves some homebrew, or some powerful magic items, so be it!

I love it when a player

asks to speak with a specific NPC without being prompted by me. The closer the table gets to all collboratively telling a story, rather than the GM taking the players through something totally premade, the better!

I think min/maxing...

is completely fine if it brings the individual player joy, and fulfills their fantasy. However, no player should ever berate or make fun of another player for making sub-optimal choices just because it decreases the efficiency of the party in a battle.

My table is not the place for...

racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, or an other form of bigotry. I tell stories about mutual aid featuring diverse characters, and action against these policies from either the players OR the characters in game will not be tolerated. The only place for bigots is to be villains to be overcome.
